Duarte, Greene, Adams and Stutts combine for the Tide’s fifth shutout of the season

4/18/2018

TUSCALOOSA, AL –
The Crimson Tide used four pitchers to combine for Alabama's 3-0 shutout win over Alcorn State on Wednesday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Tide is now 22-17 on the season following tonight's victory.

"I'm glad we won tonight, but this was not our best baseball," said Alabama head coach Brad Bohannon. "We have got play better on Friday night against a really good Auburn team, and I know our guys are looking forward to the challenge."

Senior Tyler Adams (3-0) earned the win on Wednesday, throwing 3.2 innings in relief. Junior starter Dylan Duarte along with relievers Brady Greene, a freshman, and redshirt sophomore Connor Stutts joined Adams in the shutout effort, limiting the Braves to only two hits on the night.

The Crimson Tide struck first on Wednesday with a pair of runs in the fourth. Senior Chandler Avant led off with a walk before a double by fellow senior Hunter Alexander plated the leadoff man. After a flyout moved Alexander to third, freshman Sam Praytor hit a liner to right, scoring Alexander to push the lead to 2-0.

Alabama added an insurance run in the sixth to make it a 3-0 game. Alexander delivered a one-out single to start things for the Tide and advanced to second on a wild pitch one out later. Praytor then drew a walk with Alexander moving on the pitch. The senior first baseman stole third and an error on the Alcorn third baseman allowed the ball to go into left, bringing Alexander home for the Tide's third run of the evening.

Alexander led the Tide in hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a double for his 10th multi-hit game of the season. The senior also contributed one RBI and scored two runs in the midweek matchup.

Next up for Alabama is a weekend series at Sewell-Thomas Stadium with the 25th-ranked Auburn Tigers. Friday's opener is set for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch at The Joe, followed by a Saturday 7 p.m. start. Sunday's series finale is slated for 1 p.m. The bookend matchups will air on SEC Network+, while Saturday night's contest will be televised nationally on SEC Network.
