The Tide scored one in the ninth but would come no closer

BATON ROUGE, LA – Alabama baseball rallied for one run in the ninth but could not battle all the way back in a 7-3 loss to LSU at Alex Box Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Following the series finale, the Crimson Tide is 26-27 overall and 7-20 in Southeastern Conference action.
Alabama and LSU traded runs in the second before the Tigers moved in front with one run in the bottom of the third. LSU added two more to their lead in the fifth followed by the teams trading runs again in the sixth – one for UA and three for LSU. In the ninth, the Crimson Tide used a leadoff triple and a double to score one. Two outs later, a walk placed runners on the corners before a flyout ended Sunday's contest with the Tigers out front.
The Crimson Tide scored first for a third consecutive game, plating one run in the top of the second. Freshman Sam Praytor got aboard to start the inning thanks to an LSU error and moved himself into scoring position on a wild pitch. Praytor advanced to third thanks to a sacrifice bunt and then came across on a two-out double from sophomore John Trousdale, making it a 1-0 contest. LSU answered right back, leading off the home half of the second with a solo home run to even things up at one apiece.
In the third, LSU moved out front with one run to break the tie. A leadoff single followed by a sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position before another single brought across the go-ahead run for the 2-1 Tiger lead. LSU widened the gap in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run that carried out and over the wall in left for a 4-1 Tiger advantage after five full.
Alabama used a solo home run from junior Keith Holcombe in the sixth to cut into the lead, but LSU answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth frame for a 7-2 lead through six. In the ninth, sophomore John Trousdale led things off with a triple followed by a double from Jett Manning, a junior, to score one. Two outs later, junior Joe Breaux walked to place runners on the corners but a flyout ended the game and the series in favor of LSU.
Trousdale led the Crimson Tide offense, contributing a 3-for-4 day with an RBI and one run scored. The Tide first baseman finished a home run short of the cycle on Sunday. Holcombe wrapped up his day at 2-for-3 with the solo homer, an RBI and one run scored.
Following today's game, the Crimson Tide returns home for its final series of the 2018 regular season. Alabama will host Ole Miss from Thursday through Saturday, May 24-26, at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The first two games of the weekend are set for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch while the regular-season and series finale on Saturday is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. All three games will air live on SEC Network+.
