Maybe you heard and maybe you haven’t but there is a large contingent of Star Wars fans revolting against Kathleen Kennedy and the New Star Wars direction by boycotting Solo. The reasons are mostly surrounding Kennedy and Disney politically attacking this group over their criticisms against The Last Jedi and how they feel this new more SJW type story is killing Star Wars.
First I would to say the new saga isn’t great but serviceable imo. I’m not apart of this boycott but I won’t see Solo and it’s because it has never looked appealing and I would rather see Deadpool 2. I originally thought this boycott was stupid and wouldn’t accomplish anything, but these projections have gone from Memorial Day record high to a near below average Star Wars opening. So I honestly think the 71% on RT is also hurting it.
Part of me wants Solo to fail, but not because I want a political victory or want the overall collapse of Star Wars. But more because I don’t want a Star Wars movie every year. I wish there was a James Bond movie space between movies where each movie is kinda an event instead of “ dang we gotta go see this one because we always go..”.
I don’t know who wins between Kennedy or the fans but it’s more interesting than the movie itself imo. What say you?
