German villagers protest massive U.S. military convoy on sleepy roads

During the Cold War the US used to stage a big exercise every other year called REFORGER (Return of Forces to Germany) to exercise things like loading ships to reinforce NATO troops in the event of a Soviet invasion. Those stopped in the early 1990s because we are one big happy family now.
Well, those skills atrophied and the U.S. has started exercising what we will need to do if the Rooskies try something stupid.

The Left Party (Die Linke) and the Deutsche Kummunistische Partei decided to protest. How annoyed would you be if a big military convoy of foreign soldiers clogged up traffic for a while?
But then there is this:
"The feeling that many West Germans don't understand is that the East Germans say: The Russians never did us any harm. ... We never experienced the Russians having evil intentions."
This is a little bit disappointing. In a country that clubs itself over the head for the Nazis (not without reason), for an Ossi to say that shows that they have not done enough decommunization in the Ost.

It would thrill me to no end if we brought home all the troops and equipment that's unwanted over there (and everywhere else not he planet).
