    The Coming of Taulia

The AJC apparently is shutting down SEC Country. Chris Kirschner has done a terrific job covering UA football.

If this is his last big piece, it’s a good one.

    Enjoy.

I saw that Roll Tide Daily had its' last show yesterday. Difficult to monetize these programs and find an audience in the time frames they are on live.

I for one will miss CK`s articles and updates on UA recruiting. I wonder if he`ll reappear elsewhere ?

IF Al.com were to hire him, he would make Bone’s life a lot more difficult.

CK was one of the few free news sources for Crimson Tide recruiting. He did a wonderful job. Not sure where I'm going to turn now.

This will be so for a whole bunch of us, I'd submit. A real opportunity for someone!

I will also. He was good and I think he will land on his feet. Maybe at BOL or ESPN.

Why would the AJC shut down the site?

I thought it was Cox Media Group that decided to shut it down. Also shut down the Big 10 equivalent, Land of 10. All under the Diehards umbrella of websites. No reasons as given to the closures.

Most newspaper cuts come down to the same thing. Money. The stories either aren’t driving expected readership or ad sales, and the reporters and editors involved have to get paid. Until they don’t.

It could also have resulted from falling revenue in some other sector of the chain.

I heard an interview on Finebaum and it was all money. They are trying to figure out the right model for marketing a web based outlet that can make money. Someone will figure it out and will change a lot of things.

Indeed. And it’s why once great papers like the AJC put people and resources into sites like SEC Country in an attempt to recapture lost business.
