Two members of an Islamic State murder squad can face trial in the US after Britain chose not to seek assurances the pair won't face the death penalty if found guilty.Captured jihadists Alexanda Kotey and Shafee El-Sheikh are members of the "Beatles" group of IS fighters, so-called because the quartet all possessed British accents. The group was behind the brutal beheadings of British and US journalists and aid workers.

I am in principle against the death penalty, but I don't think I could muster the will to oppose executing these two.

I tend to think of the Tolkien quote "“Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement.”

However, in cases such as this or timothy mcveigh, I see so much danger in keeping them alive that I am not sure I would block their execution.

I'm opposed to the death penalty because of the cost incurred by the tax payers. It's cheaper just to lock them up forever.
I'm against the death penalty because government has shown over and over again the ability to screw up almost anything, especially trials.

That said, in cases like this the death penalty should simply be carried out as soon as they're found guilty and for less than a dollar (couple rounds of M193).

NV is now using a drug overdose as a means of execution.

The cost is high because someone who is supplying the drug is price gouging or is outright blocking the sale to the state. Bullets are cheaper, but I think people want to fantasize about a “ peaceful” death over a violent one.

This is my opinion as well, although I would add that in some cases it's not just screwing it up it's outright going out of their way to screw someone over.

I oppose the death penalty because not everyone on death row is innocent. I'm not saying everyone is or even a majority are. But people have been freed due to DNA findings. And not every case has DNA evidence.

And even if they are indeed guilty, not every killer gets the same sentence. And a trial is not always fair. Get a good lawyer and you have a better chance than relying on an overworked public defender.

As for the people in the case, I'm fine if they aren't executed. Send them to Florence, Colorado, to live out their life at the federal prison there.

The statements in bold confuse me. Would you be more likely in favor of the death penalty if everyone on death row was innocent?
