just damn.

but hey, they are pro-life

A grand jury report into clergy sex abuse revealed 90 offenders in the Pittsburgh Diocese, the most of any other Diocese under investigation, and sharply criticized some former bishops for protecting the most abusive priests.

The report detailed a predatory ring of priests who manufactured child pornography, shared intelligence on victims and gave large gold crosses to certain boys to mark them as already being "groomed," for abuse.

The report also identified a former Beaver County District Attorney, Robert Masters, who shut down "all investigations" into abuse of boys in 1964 to avoid "unfavorable publicity" for the church.

Heard about this last night from my wife. Sickening all around and most of the victims have the statue of limitations passed even for civil suits (which I didn't even know there were limits on civil).

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/14/us/catholic-priests-pennsylvania-church-jury.html

The report, which says there were more than 1,000 identifiable victims and perhaps thousands more, is the broadest examination yet by a government agency in the United States of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Here are some excerpts.
Potentially thousands of victims.

I'm at the point where I think the Catholic church just needs to be abolished and don't understand how anyone could continue to support it after so many revelations. My wife feels the same way now and she grew up with a lot of Catholics in Mississippi (her uncle was a priest) and loves a lot of things about Catholicism.

And people wonder why I regard the Catholic Church with such vitriolic disdain.

Historically, corruption of power and abusive - if not murderous - behavior has been the rule, not the exception, for the Catholic Church. They've sent far more people to Hell than they'll ever send to Heaven.

The real motto of the Catholic Church should be "doing Satan's work for him, everyday."

These stories about the Catholic Church covering things up literally make me physically nauseous.

Since 2015 there has been a film (Spotlight) and a Docu-series (The Keepers) covering these types of stories and yet nothing ever ultimately happens.

The Catholic Church system need to be completely torn down and abolished and every single Priest that has ever committed ANY act like these .....jailed or worse.

as an ex Catholic this story disgusts me

as an ex Catholic who spent 6 years in the Diocese of Allentown PA (one of them from this report) it gives me a sense of absolute pride that I rebelled so hard against it as a young kid. I remember distinctly a priest telling my mom that my brother and I were on a path to hell for skipping Sunday School so often. Wonder if that schmuck was one of the named? Mom eventually gave up as my brother and I planted our feet in the ground and refused to go to to Sunday School and would sneak into their bedroom in the early am to unplug their alarm clocks so they would sleep through mass.

I wasn't originally going to make this joke because of the context of how horrible this whole story is, but I'm not letting the Catholic Church rob me of my dark humor this morning.

i was raised to believe that they didn't preach the "truth" (and neither did the methodists, or the other baptist church in town for that matter, and the catholics were right out)

and i think they thought the same ;)
My Christian school bible teacher told us Catholicism was a cult. I was in high-school and could think for myself at that point and made this face -

I wasn't going to go that far but I've always had reservations about them biblically speaking.

Also the fact that it seems physically impossible for them to keep their dongs out of little boys.

(Edit: the above was not meant to spur a conversation into the fidelity of different religions but just to affirm what others were saying about their denominations bad mouthing other denominations.)

IIRC, according to the FBI definition of a cult, the Catholic Church technically is a cult.
