At age 35 I still had kids in grade school. I saw where I should be saving at a certain rate that I thought was comical since I had a mortgage, braces on my kids teeth and a spouse in college.

So I tried to save as much as I could, then started doubling-down as the kids came off the payroll. I'm about 8 years from SSI retirement. I should be ok. Especially if I'm an expat in Portugal, or somewhere else where the retirement dollar goes a lot further than here in the US. ;)
