I think bringing in people like Oprah is meant to draw more attention to the campaign. People may not really care about an Abrams rally, but will go just to see Oprah. If it gets them more motivated to go vote, it has served its purpose.

Spot on. No one is going to change their vote - it's just for PR and to put on a good show.

And in a related story, water is wet.

(Anyone who actually thought Beto had anything resembling a chance just doesn't know the state. And YES - he was a good candidate. But what if they'd sent those millions elsewhere?)
many are crediting him for exciting Texans to vote that otherwise would not have, causing the D's to pick up other victories that they would not have.

And many others are pointing out that if that $70 million fool's venture had been spent elsewhere, they might have cut their losses. Indeed, several Ds were basically begging him to be a socialist in practice and spread some money their way.

The fact that Beto was even competitive in Texas should give the Repubs in that state pause.

The state is getting less and less Caucasian, and more Hispanic. Within a decade, you will probably see this as a swing state or even move to the blue side.

Which is why the two parties are on polar opposites of each other on immigration. One party wants to keep the votes out, the other wants them in.

The only problem with that is Socialists only give away other peoples money....

Kay Bailey Hutchison gonna save us from the right wing

Beto

The problem is that those of us who actually live here have heard this song and dance pretty much every election.

And then we watch Reagan invade Grenada again metaphorically speaking.

One of these days a Democrat is going to win a statewide office here, and the pundits who predict it every single election cycle with pat themselves on the back for "seeing it."

The state is getting less and less Caucasian, and more Hispanic.
And right here is why Democrats keep losing.

The Hispanic vote is not and has never been as monolithic as the black vote or even the Christian right vote.

Keep in mind that the white(r) dude in the race was actually the Irishman O'Rourke.

I've lived here all but two years since 2001. I've been hearing it every single year I've lived here.

Might it happen? Yeah. But you'd think all this identity politics would be abandoned as many times as it doesn't work out right.

I may have missed something along the way, but why would any black or latino vote for Cruz or DeSantis.

lots of Catholics in the Latino Community. With Catholicism comes a great deal of pressure to not vote for anyone who has a well reasoned take on family planning.

Anti abortion. Anti gay marriage is more important in some groups than being treated like a full citizen.

I keep seeing people say he should run for president. I think the Democrats should nominate someone who actually won their last race.

I know he had a tough battle in a red state and Lincoln lost a Senate race two years before being elected president. But I don’t see him beating Trump.

Considering he never articulated one stance that I can recall while running for Senate other than he had visited all 254 counties in Texas and that we needed to put aside our differences and he would represent everyone. Yet the libs in NY & Cali poured in millions upon millions of dollars for some reason.
