I already covered why head to head stat comparisons are pure nonsense in this case.
Let me give another example though. Let's take AJ McCarron as an example. He had a lot of overlap in terms of when he and when Landry Jones played.
We all know AJ was a very good quarterback for Alabama, a record breaking one in fact. He was drafted in the 5th round, Jones was drafted in the 4th. AJ has thrown for 928 yards in the NFL, Jones has thrown for 1,310 yards. AJ has a rating of 92.4, Jones has a rating of 86.2. If there is an argument to be made that Jones is a better quarterback, it would be that he's marginally better.
Well... here's the college stats.
Landry Jones in four years as a starter had 16,646 yards and 123 TDs. AJ had 9019 yards and 77 TDs (which includes his time as a backup). Lest you think that makes Jones better, AJ's rating was 162 and Jones rating was 141.
Jones threw for over 7,500 more yards and 46 more TDs (one more year as a starter). Why? Was it because he was a better QB? No. Was it because he was more deserving of post season awards? No, in fact AJ won the Johnny Unitas and the Maxwell (Jones won the Sammy Baugh... didn't know that was a thing). The reason he put up those stats was because he was playing for Oklahoma, that's the only reason.
Anyway, the point is you can't go head to head Oklahoma vs. Alabama passing stats. They're going to be misleading.
