The counterpoint to that is it was their backups, too. Backup QB, RB and WRs.
Also, that backup running back looked like my neighbor's 12-year-old running around out there. 5'5" and 150. I would hope that the talent difference at Alabama is enough that when you line up 1s and 1s, there's as much advantage for Alabama as there is when you line up 2s and 2s. If there's not, then your recruiting hasn't been as good as reported. The other issue is Bama can't bet on making it through another season up front or in the secondary unscathed like it did last year. Buggs has hurt an ankle now in two consecutive weeks, but he can't be rested for Ole Miss. If he gets hurt again, Ray is the starting end. The next guy up appears to be Mathis moving out from nosetackle. I haven't seen much to indicate he's quick enough for that end position yet. Honestly I think they're better moving Q.Williams out and letting Mathis play the middle. Musika played as good or better yesterday than Mathis but Mathis also limped a lot.
This is a one-platoon team in the front seven right now. I give them credit for holding ASU's 2s out of the end zone at the end but there aren't many places Alabama can absorb a loss. As somewhat surprised as I am to see Mack Wilson not take the next step forward, take him out of the middle right now and it borders on disaster. Benton made a lot of tackles yesterday but was slow to get to spots. McMillon knows where to go but lacks the speed of the others. The best thing about Bama's 1s at the moment is the pure speed, as it covers up a lot.
Heck, UA can't even get through warm-ups without significant injury. Jalyn Armour-Davis may have torn up a knee in pregame. It's been crazy the last 2-3 years.
