I am greatly impressed with our tight end play. I cannot remember a game(year) that so many throws have been made to our kick..... tight ends. I like it a lot! SIAP

I'm so glad the rule was changed allowing TEs to be eligible receivers - long overdue !

It's so nice seeing Smith and Hentges getting involved with the passing game. They could be difference makers in the bigger games down the road. Would really like to see Kedrick James more involved. He's a physical specimen.

Including the tight ends, running backs, receivers and quarterbacks (yes I'm including Jalen) this offense is unreal. Hopefully the line can improve at run blocking so the offense can reach new heights and prove to be next to impossible to stop.

Was curious about the comparison between this year and last season. Looked at the numbers yesterday. So far the TEs have 16 receptions while they only had 24 in 14 games last year. They have 4 TDs in 2018 compared to only 6 all of 2017.

I think it`s the degree to which we`ve begun to utilize them. It`s not that we never threw to the TE, just never in a long time (if ever) to the degree to which we are now and I hope will continue to in the future. Just yet another weapon for which to prepare for the opponent.

I think part of the success is the way defenses are having to respect the rest of our passing game. If others follow the A&M strategy and try to stack the box/push the center of the line to control the running game and try to affect Tua while also committing the necessary defenders to keep up with our wide outs, well, they are just going to run out of bodies to cover a tight end -- especially one large/fast/strong enough to keep up with our tight ends.

Maybe. I don't think Smith has the wheels Howard has - dude could outrun anyone on the field...
This was Saban in April, 2017:

Nick Saban on OJ Howard: He should have had more production here, through no fault of his. Never had the offense to take advantage of him.
Strangely, Kiffin went on to utilize the TE at FAU more than they'd ever used one...

Lane was known for using TEs when he was OC at USC. I remember people expecting big numbers from Vogler and OJ when he got the job. Not sure if those big numbers never developed because the offenses ended up being centered around one player (Cooper, Henry, and Ridley) or what.

Part of it was the QB...

Irv Smith may not have the speed of OJ Howard, but he appears to be better in his receiving ability--look at that TD in the endzone where he used his body to shield the ball from the defender and made sure to drag his feet.
