No what I described is the NFL rule on QB slides and where the ball is placed.

Rule 7, Section 2, Article 1 An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:
d) when a runner declares himself down by sliding feet first on the ground. The ball is dead the instant the runner touches the ground with anything other than his hands or his feet;

My point is that the NFL slide rule is very specific about when the slide begins. The NCAA is very subjective. I see no reason for them to leave that to the subjective judgement of one official over another. If we are going to do that we might as well have replay start reviewing PI calls.
