I would like to know what type of person was against the victim’s rights law otherwise known as Marsy's Law. It only won with a little over 80% of the vote.
With a Bob Newhart stammer. "That...that would be me."

I felt like it was unnecessary because it duplicated existing law, could have unintended consequences like the version in Maine that had to be amended, and am generally skeptical of legislation mass produced by groups outside the state.

I also have a problem with another part of the law. "This measure expands these legal rights to include all public criminal proceedings, including the release from custody of offenders after their arrest, but before trial." Our system is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. This basically presumes guilt before the trial begins.

There was a situation that I saw posted that really put this law into perspective for me. A man breaks into someones house and the homeowner shoots the intruder. Charges are then filed against the homeowner. The intruder is now a victim and would be provided all benefits of the law.

Finally, it really bothered my wife and I about how they worded the law on the ballots. It essentially said "If you hate victims and think they do not deserve have justice served you will vote No."

Was that really the "unbiased" wording on the ballot?

The ballot quote for the law was, “Are you in favor of providing constitutional rights to victims of crime, including the right to be treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and the right to be informed and to have a voice in the judicial process?” It didn't even specify it was Marsy's Law. I know that I exagerated the specific wording, we just both walked away feeling like it was very biased.

That sounds more like a platform plank than an amendment. Even worse, the wording implies that constitutional rights are some kind of bounty to be bestowed by the state,

I don’t even know what that means. If you handed me the ballot and I had zero knowledge of it beforehand, how do I know what passage of it does?

I just have a different view on the matter because I have a relative that was a victim. Her mom was not informed when the scumbag came up for parole and damn sure wasn't told when he got released.

The wording should have said the victims or their families get notified about parole hearings and releases and not the word salad that was on the ballot.

Yesterday: Democrat Bourdeaux sues Gwinnett over rejected ballots in 7th District race

Today: Federal judge finds Georgia county violated Civil Rights Act by rejecting ballots

A federal judge on Tuesday found that Gwinnett County violated the Civil Rights Act in its handling of absentee ballots during last week's midterm elections, a ruling that will likely delay the overall vote tally in the state's tight gubernatorial race.
*googles Gwinnett county*

Atlanta suburb with ~50% minority population confirmed.

Gwinnet is home of the best asian food east of the Mississippi with the exception of maybe NYC, maybe
Yep. There are some great places over there and not just the Americanized Chinese food either. There is a really good dim sum place over in Gwinnett. I forgot the name.

I'm a democrat turned republican turned independent. If I could never vote for D or R again it would be too soon.
The full banjeaux for you, sir!

Only difference between us is that I never made a stop with the Democrats. I've been a lifelong Republican. But in the last 10-12 years, the religious demagogues have taken over the GOP platform, open Socialists are driving the Democrats, and I am now homeless.

I despise them all. I would call them prostitutes, but Mrs. Basket Case says I shouldn't talk about prostitutes that way.

This go-round, I contributed to two Republican campaigns and one Democratic. I had one each sign in my yard. I'm what I consider now an independent, but I used to be an old style Republican - restrained spending, low/no deficits, balanced budget, limited overseas meddling. The only place where the Republicans haven't moved off and left me is on the 2nd amendment. Most of the talking points of people calling themselves Republicans these days, I consider to be essentially about religion...

Yup, I’m tired off Republicans getting my vote and then doing squat. I voted for quite a few Libertarians this last election. Not really any Democrats I would consider.

Unfortunately, there are some races here with essentially no choice but a D. I voted a very mixed ballot weighted against incumbents at any level, against R nationally, against D at state, and against incumbent locally or with D since R's are predominant here. Anything to put a different voice in the mix, basically. If there was an independent or L choice or write in then I leaned that direction. Voted against all but two ballot measures.

I haven't voted for Big Brother Red or Big Brother Blue since I voted for Clinton in 1992. Since neither party is a responsible steward of taxpayers' money, I don't see me voting for either major party again (at the national level) in my lifetime.
