Last year’s version was filled with my attempts at humor, as I saw very few paths to victory. I’m feeling a little bit different this year, so here we go and in no particular order

1) LSU’s DBs - Everyone talks about Greedy, but the guy across the field, Kristian Fulton, may be just as good. Grant Delpit is an amazing safety who gets better each game. All 3 will play on Sundays and probably all will be drafted in round 1 (Fulton if he stays next year). The X factor is Kary Vincent at nickel. He, too, keeps getting better and he has world class speed. The weak point is the SS Battle, even though he has 3 ints. Bama’s WRs vs LSUs DBs will be fun to watch.

2) LSU has been doubted all year. Predicted to win as few as 5 games by some, 7.5 by Vegas (I’m almost guaranteed to cash in that “over” bet), this team continues to defy the odds. Not shockingly, as a 14.5 point underdog, they are doubted once again.

3) LSUs OL is the healthiest it’s been all year. We’ve started 7 different combinations of OL in 8 games. Lots of experienced gained and depth established. We are finally at a point where we can put the best 5 out there.

4) LSUs kicking game is the best all around unit I’ve ever seen for us. If it comes down to FGs, I like our chances with Cole Tracey. He is deadly accurate, only missing two FGs both from plus 50, one going off the bottom bar. We have 2 good punters, one for distance and one for touch. Our kickoff specialist makes kick off returns virtually non existent.

5) LSU has quality talent from top to bottom. While this may be seen as David v Goliath, David isn’t exactly a puny fellow.

6) The game is at night in Tiger Stadium and the crowd will be electric. Game day will be there. Weather is supposed to be amazing. No rain. Perfect conditions, no excuses for fans not to pack the house.

7) LSU has been challenged more, we are battle tested if you will. Bama hasn’t been challenged at all with all wins coming via blowout. We’ve fought hard and have faced adversity.

8) LSU has finally closed the gap with respects to coaching analysts on staff. I don’t think the average fan understands what a huge difference that makes.

9) Les Miles won’t be on the sideline. The Jan 2012 BCS game changed him forever. It showed in his demeanor before and in the weeks after the Bama game. The team was affected by it. He was hard headed, going so far as to say the way to beat Bama is to attack their strength. That was grounds for termination in my opinion! Say what you will about Orgeron, but he has a quality staff and he is letting them coach.

10) It means more to LSU. You can argue with me on this one, but I believe Bama has established enough collateral to where you are a near lock for the playoffs, even with a loss. There may be Bama fatigue for fans. But, the people that matter, the committee, know that Bama is, at a minimum, a top 4 team. They don’t want to get it wrong.

My title is reasons we CAN win. I’m a doubter this week (see #2). I think Bama is still too much, especially with Tua. Any other QB and I like our chances. I hope it’s a good one and I’ll be here next week win or lose. For those of you going, enjoy. I hope we give you a great experience.

Good post! I think it will take all these points coming together in a perfect storm for LSU to pull off the win, but thank you for not posting things like, "this is our year." I believe the DBs will be the key piece for LSU, and I am excited to see if Tua can find the correct matchups consistently, i.e Irv Smith on a linebacker, or Waddel or Ruggs on that SS you mentioned. This should be fun to watch.

Terrific post and good points all. Some may " doubt " LSU ( Vegas ), but I don`t and I`m pretty sure the team won`t either. I`m sure we`ll get LSU`s best. I`ll be stunningly disappointed and more than a little surprised if they don`t get ours.

It's a good point that LSU is more "battle" tested than Bama. We really don't know for sure how we might react to getting punched in the mouth.

We've been in big games like this plenty of times in the past, but this team has just steamrolled the competition.

I think LSU needs alot of things to go their way early and they can't afford to get behind 10+ points. If it's a close game at halftime, it's a ball game for sure.

FWIW, I still think we have more horses than LSU at the key spots and, yes, Tua will likely be the key difference.

Home cooking and letting the emotion hang around past the 7:30 second mark of the first quarter are the only ways LSU wins.

If you don't think repeating as National Champs means something to this team, you're wrong. I know Saban wants them focused on the smallest goal in front of them and moving forward from that, but this game is part of a bigger puzzle.

LSU has been tested by teams that were vastly overrated at the beginning of the season. Isn't Georgia the only team left ranked that they've beaten?

Don't get me wrong, LSU is perfectly capable of beating Alabama, those were just the ones I took exception to.

10 ways LSU wins, 1. Tua is stricken with Polio. 2 our RB's all get the clap. 3.All WR's get left off the plane. 4 Saban stays at home. 5 Offensive line runs off to a cult. 5. Defensive line runs off to the same cult. 5. defensive backs all get food poisoning. 6. Entire coaching staff quits. 7. Million dollar band all come down with mono. 8. all the fans stay at home. 9 The sun rises at midnight. 10 the world ends Saturday morning. Now if all 10 things happens they win by 2. barring all of those 10 things.................. they lose. So bet on Bama and we cover the 14 point spread before the end of the first quarter. They never get within 14 ever.

LSU has a fine team. They deserve to be where they are. Aranda is a fine Coordinator. Really good as a matter of record. Ensminger has done a great job. And I have always thought LSU is a top notch program. Other than that....we are coming Saturday night. Hoping for a good game. Fair officiating. And I hope the fans on both sides will be civilized. I believe the recent events are absurd. Hate to see it where the fans literally hate others who don't bleed their colors.

Most of the hate is fueled by the media looking for ratings. There are bad fans in every major program but a lot of it is perpetuated by the press.

This is a concern for me as well. When you beat teams that handily , that consistently, complacency will set in a little. It’s just human nature to admire yourself at times. I know Coach fights this every day, and has for years. But, We saw it with Oklahoma vs Texas. Very similar game to this one with OU being the high powered offense with a hotshot QB and Texas the team that liked to muddy up the game, get dirty and get just enough from the QB. I know there are differences , but also similarities.

Ed has yet to coach an entire season and lose less than 4 games.... right now, I'd say he's no "Les Miles"

I think these are all very fair and legitimate reasons. Of course, I hope you are wrong and that we beat LSU by 40, but I am concerned that they will turn it into a slug-fest, and we have not had to play that style this year. It will be interesting to see which team can impose its will on the other.

OR you come out and show that the first 8 were not flukes against weak teams. So many talking heads have bashed our record as weak competition. Bama KNOWS this is a good team. Now what will they say Monday if we route them by 30 plus? When was the last time a Nick Saban team got complacent??????????? Last bad losses were when we were out of NC picture or just got beat. Last year we could not pass on Auburn and they knew it. Not since 2007 did we not play to our potential in a game that mattered. OU killed us and Utah in Bowl games that did not matter. This game is lock for SECCG, You think any player on this Saban team comes out flat? This will be our finest hour. This is the game that tells the Nation, this is the best team in the Nation by a mile. This is the game that sends chills in the other top 3 teams.Nick said when he got here, we want to be the team no one wants to play. Well friends this is that team. This game ends the "WE WANT BAMA" thing for the foreseeable future. This team is peaking, running backs are rested, defense is pretty much 100% healthy. Tua has gained game time and confidence. Coaching staff has gelled. This is the perfect storm. This could be...... will be the biggest win, and Tua wins Heisman Saturday night. They all say he needs a Heisman moment, watch he will show a Heisman moment like no one else has. That O line will protect him and he will go off. Defense is ready to put a whipping on a team that we have not seen all year. Leave the punter and kicker at home, they will not be needed. This could be the best game since 92 National Title game. Pure domination.

Battle tested?

I'll give them UGA so, 1 battle test, if that's what you want to call it but, who else... UF? AU? MSST? Miami?

Those teams are no better then A&M and Ole Miss, and Bama had no issues dismantling them. LSU is still getting way too much credit for beating "top ten" AU and Miami. ESPN still throws out "3 top ten wins". No sane person believes AU and Miami were or are top ten teams. Just another reason why pre-season rankings should disappear.

I will be shocked if Tiger Stadium is full in the 4th quarter.

Miami is mediocre at best. They had to come from behind to beat an awful Florida State team AT HOME.

The stats this season are skewed because even though Bama has set scoring records, none of the games has been as close as the score. There is a jaw dropper every game. Tua is throwing dimes behind an OL that is giving him plenty of time. This is the best receiving corps I’ve seen at Alabama, possibly anywhere. There is a stable of NFL backs who are all fresh. The defense now has experience and at this point in the season may well be a top five defense nationally.

LSU has a good team. (I’d love to have either one of those two punters.) LSU probably has emotion on their side.

I’ll take Bama and give the 14.5.

Alabama was on pace to score 100 against Ole Miss and Tennessee but we eased up in the second quarter. In the second quarter of the Tennessee game, if Anfernee Jennings stays on side during our punt coverage unit on 4th and 3 we likely go up 35-0 early in the second quarter. Our offense was on fire and that extinguished it briefly.

Those were good teams when LSU played them and UGA wasn't a pushover. Granted some of those teams don't look like top 10 or even top 25 teams, but who have we beaten, TAMU who is also a three loss team. It's easy to say because we haven't played anybody that's okay because neither has LSU.
