I guess I missed this earlier, but it's interesting that you've got moody ahead of benton. Is benton not developing or is moody a potential sleeper who's better than the scouts had him ranked?

From what I've been told by people at practice/scrimmages, Moody is the real deal and the next good one.

Great to hear - always good to see some of the kids who don't get as much press out of HS being able to compete and make an impact for us.

Physically speaking, he and Kaho have looked to be the real deal on special teams this year. Both of them were huge finds in recruiting last year.

I'd say it's a mix of good news and not-so-good news. Basically, no one has stepped up there.

Josh McMillon is really the only reserve ILB the coaches trust at the moment and there's a big dropoff, in regards to athleticism, when he's in the game. But he knows the calls and knows how to get people aligned. In the earlier part of the year, before Mack Wilson (by his own admission) got serious about film study, I thought McMillon was reading keys better than Wilson once he got in.

They've rotated all of the ILB candidates through that fourth slot and no one has stuck yet. Benton, in my opinion, isn't big enough for the role. Kaho also needs weight, but he mostly needs to learn where to go. Moody looks to have picked up the mental side of it more quickly and he's the only guy right now with the body for it. The big takeaway is that if Alabama loses an ILB down the stretch, the only place it can less afford to lose someone is at P1 quarterback. For that matter, one of the first things that may get tried is actually having Christian Miller move inside with Jamey Mosley starting at SLB.
