Jalen is like Tebow - athletics aside, if my kids end up like him I'll be one proud dad.
I expect Jones to be the starter in 2020, but Taulia will push him and may even win the starting job as the season progresses.I'm high on Mac's potential too. In 2020 He will have 4 years in the system as a RS Junior and most likely will be the Backup QB next year IF Jalen decides to try his luck somewhere else.
But Taulia and Tyson are both very talented so who knows?? It could be a 3-way battle for the job.
Considering the growth of Jalen under Enos, I say open up the bank and keep him around.I expect Jones to be the starter in 2020, but Taulia will push him and may even win the starting job as the season progresses.
I really hope Coach Enos will stick around for a few years to work with all these guys.
I suspect he's gonna have to end up as OC for us to keep him. Maybe not in 2019, but before long those calls will be coming again.Considering the growth of Jalen under Enos, I say open up the bank and keep him around.
I think that you take a pretty big risk promoting him to that job this year if you lose Gattis. If you keep them both, let Gattis call the plays and make Enos the Co-OC.I suspect he's gonna have to end up as OC for us to keep him. Maybe not in 2019, but before long those calls will be coming again.
You have to play one year at a time. I understand the concern, but (other than recruiting) Saban is not going to think about 2020 until 2019 is in the books. The question for me is if he stays how does that affect the QB's we have coming in? If he stays both he and Tua will be gone after next year. Mac won't get the reps he needs to be a starter and neither will any other QB. If he stays it will kind of put us between a rock and a hard place. RTR
Yah, that's what I meant. I don't think Bama has to pull the trigger now, but before long he's going to have to be offered the opportunity or he'll look elsewhere for it. I doubt his career goal is to be a QB specialist.I think that you take a pretty big risk promoting him to that job this year if you lose Gattis. Maybe we'll see some plays with all 3 on the field. [emoji15][emoji849]I also wouldn't sleep on Tyson.
Tua's a phenom, but there are really good guys coming in (or already here) that will challenge Taulia. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Jones or Tyson end up starting - there's a LOT of talent here and coming at QB.
Jalens freshman year, he had zero playing time the year before and that worked out pretty well ! I’m selfishly more concerned with keeping Jalen, because I love having him around the program. The question for me is if he stays how does that affect the QB's we have coming in? Just trying to understand why Enos would be such a risk. I think Gattis has proven himself as a great recruiter and wide receivers coach but he has never called plays. Enos has been OC and called plays at multiple stops including being a head coach. He has a much experience as Locksley calling plays and arguably more success prior to this year. Enos gave Bama fits at Arkansas with much less talent.I think that you take a pretty big risk promoting him to that job this year if you lose Gattis. If you keep them both, let Gattis call the plays and make Enos the Co-OC.
We discussed this in another thread and we disagree. That's cool. Reasonable people can see things differently.Just trying to understand
I acted immature in the other thread and offer my apology. You stated in that thread it would be insane to go with Enos instead of allowing Locksley to coach thru the playoff games. I can see the thought of not changing horses in mid stream but going with Enos next season is completely another topic. I am just curious to what makes you think Enos would not be successful.....We discussed this in another thread and we disagree. That's cool. Reasonable people can see things differently.
:cheers2:
Not saying that he would not - simply saying that you get far more continuity with Gattis. Gattis was the Co-OC this year and both helped develop the game plans for every game and helped with the play calling during games (though Locks was the guy actually making the calls).I acted immature in the other thread and offer my apology. I completely agree. He needs to finish his college football with playing time as a starter in every game, showing the NFL scouts that he has what they are looking for. Mop up duty will not get that done. He has to make the decision based on what is best for his future, not what is best for Bama. For him, he needs to set emotion and love for the Crimson Tide aside and make all about business. But what risk would he run of falling in the draft (or completely out of the draft) due to lack of "film"? How would he and his agent get past the criticisms of "he's barely touched the field in two years"? Because, it's one thing to come into a game and be great one time. It's another thing to do it over an entire season. NFL teams are going to want to see that the SECCG wasn't a fluke. I would be afraid (if I'm Jalen) that by staying I wouldn't get enough quality snaps to put together a resume of film to convince an NFL team to draft me in the middle rounds or higher. If he gets drafted in the lower rounds or goes undrafted. His chances of making it on a team drastically decreases to the point of long shot.
