Please post pics, if possible!I'll channel my most inner Maria Taylor and ask Coach Saban all about it when I see him on the 24th _surpris
BIG..I don't dispute that, as head man, he probably needed to take the hit for the tragedy. It happened on his watch. My point is, that from all I have heard...and this was a MASSIVE story where I live...DJ wasn't personally involved in this decision by the fully negligent trainer and other assistant. So..I understand his getting fired...but do not think he is some bad apple that Bama can't touch. He will need to rehabilitate his career and I am quite certain he won't be making any policy regarding health and welfare of the players at Bama. So for those reasons, I am fine with the hire. JMO.The reality - he did not get fired because this player died. He was fired because he directly delayed treatment, which led to his death. Everyone here understands the risks of heat injuries, but there was a clear failure in this program, and this death might have been prevented.

I agree with you. If this were somehow to become a permanent hire at some point, how does this guy go into the homes of recruits and look the recruit and parents in the eyes and say, "Don't worry, we will see that your son is well taken care of"??Not a fan _at all_ of this hire and hope it's not a permanent one.
The same way Butch Jones did.I agree with you. If this were somehow to become a permanent hire at some point, how does this guy go into the homes of recruits and look the recruit and parents in the eyes and say, "Don't worry, we will see that your son is well taken care of"??
Well he could go there and say I'm going to prevent all natural disasters while he is at it...If this were somehow to become a permanent hire at some point, how does this guy go into the homes of recruits and look the recruit and parents in the eyes and say, "Don't worry, we will see that your son is well taken care of"??
https://twitter.com/abc/status/1073576261891567622LOL! A very Cary-like remark. (CCBama on TI, for those of you who go there, and an old friend of mine.)This makes it a little better, but I'm still not thrilled about it.

I have no doubt this will happen and I can deal with it. I am not worried about him putting our program at risk. We are the GOLD standard for taking care of players. Durkin visiting for a week or so will not change that. We better beat Oklahoma by double digits if that is why Durkin is in T-Town. I still don't like the decision, though. To clarify my opinion - if Saban thinks that Durkin can help Alabama win, then Saban will get exactly what he needs from Durkin without exposing the school to any risk. Win/Win.
They did this to themselves when they paid for an investigation that showed him to not be at fault. Hard to go from that to firing for cause in a week. He would kill them in court. It is amazing to me that a head coach can be fired "without cause" when a kid died under his supervision but a coach who gets caught up in NCAA violations for whatever reason--not involving bodily harm--can have a show cause and not get hired for however many years. Free Tattoos--fired with show cause clause. Escort services--fired with show cause clause. Player dies because your staff withheld water and treatment for heatstroke and dehydration--fired without cause. Pretty shameful, IMO.
I don't think Saban cares about the PR perspective....[/
That's right and I don't either. Let's face it, the media and fans of other schools are not gonna like Saban and/or Alabama until we start losing consistently. Why bother with good PR?
You ever read the Junction Boy's story? Shameful!!! Should have never been allowed to coach again!!! Thankfully though for us Bama fans he was! Read where he, Durkin, had also been in contact with NFL teams. The man will and should be forgiven for his negligence and indirect role for the tragic death of one of his players. He will always bare the guilt for the kids death no matter what. That will haunt him and follow him the rest of his life everywhere he goes.It is amazing to me that a head coach can be fired "without cause" when a kid died under his supervision but a coach who gets caught up in NCAA violations for whatever reason--not involving bodily harm--can have a show cause and not get hired for however many years.
