When you see how much of the ship's volume is above the water line, you would think it would just tip over on it's side. It just doesn't look like it could stay upright. (yes I know it's center of gravity is below or near the water line) ;)

Thanks Bazz, if you have never been on a carrier you cannot imagine how awesome they are. I did not serve on a carrier, but once when in Norfolk, I had to go onboard the USS John F. Kennedy for training and coming off a 437 ft. destroyer escort I was immediately lost.

If you have ever spend time on one of our fast attack submarines, you will be even more impressed by the size of our carriers. I served on an older Sturgeon class fast attack sub and we once pulled up next to a Spanish carrier in Rota. The difference in size between the two was amazing (especially when you consider just how quickly my little boat could have destroyed that thing).
