Isaac Asimov's Prediction for the Year 2019

    Written in 1984.
35 years ago, Isaac Asimov was asked by the Star to predict the world of 2019. Here is what he wrote

Bottom Line Up Front: 1. Nuclear war. 2. Computerization. 3. Space utilization.

Asimov got 1.5 correct out of 3 (computerization nearly fully; nuclear war .5 because he hedged his prediction that nuclear war would not happen).

Anyway, worth a read on the last day of the year.

    Happy New Year to all.

Interesting article TW, thanks for sharing. Like most predictions, some he nailed, some he pretty much whiffed on.

I do not read much fiction, but I found Asimov's Foundation series to be exceptionally well thought out. You cannot predict history precisely, but on a grand scale you can predict trends, and, having predicted trends, you can take steps to mitigate the adverse consequences. I found that thought-provoking.

I was on a science-fiction kick when I was much younger, Asimov's Foundation series was almost required reading. I can't remember the plot or anything else about it now, and I wonder if I would enjoy rereading it now.

Oui, un peu. (Actually, I have had Frenchmen ask me what part of France I was from because they could not place the accent.)
