Actually, it's totally different. There isn't any such thing as an "SEC official." They're all independent contractors and not employed by any conference. They free to call games anywhere and as many as they can. As a practical matter, they tend to concentrate around the area they live. Conferences can blackball a particular official, but that's about all. Here's a good explanation as to how the system works...Clearly the SEC has the same recruiting process for B-ball refs as fball.
