Looks like some bets are coming in on Bama today. After the line had dropped to 4.5 at some places yesterday most are now back up to 5.5.

Meaning they hit the amount they were wanting to see in bets and now they're going for the big money last minute bets but getting the spread more in the book keepers favor. I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 6 by mid afternoon.

I've read some of the post here about gambling and am glad I never got "the bite." I've played cards and bet sports for over 20 years now, but there's been a year here or there where I don't think I placed a single bet. I'm lucky compared to others, even friends who I've tried to talk back from the edge on "sure bets" that were the difference between paying the mortgage that month.

I never gambled much more than the weekly parlay sheets years ago, and the occasional poker/card games here and there. I have frivolously blown my share of money, but I’ve always wanted/needed to get something guaranteed in return out of it. I guess for some the rush of potentially hitting it big is the high.

One weekend me and some buddies got into a long game of In Between (Acey-Deucey) and the pot got up pretty high. One of my friends bet the pot on an ace and a deuce deal, and the next card was a deuce. We were playing the rules of if you bet the pot and lost, you had to double the pot (not just match it). Not only did he lose his rent/bill money (and had a 3 y/o daughter) but started trying to ante up his guns and jewelry to stay in the game to try and win it back. We quit playing shortly thereafter and helped him out by not holding his feet to the fire, but he went on to practically lose everything within a couple years because of the insatiable gambling habit he had. Watching him pretty much curved any itches I may have gotten to gamble.

My ex-wife, unbeknown to me wagered on the Iron Bowl with a friend of ours that was a huge Auburn fan. It was only $5, but I told her when I found out that she had jinxed us. When I used to play the parlay sheets years prior, it was usually the Bama game that I would lose on, so I swore to never bet on another Alabama game (probably because I always bet with my heart, and not with my head on that game!)

We lost that IB, and part of me feels like it was because of that. On top of the sickening feeling of losing to the barn, I had to pay up to an obnoxious barn fan. So I counted out 500 pennies (actually originally gave him around 430 to see if he’d count them...he did) and gave them to him! (He never specified it had to be paper money!)

SIAP -Largest reported bets on national title game to this point:

--$220,000 on Alabama -5 at William Hill Sportsbook
--$110,000 on Alabama -5 at Superbook

Someone is betting a pretty good chunk of change on Bama. Or could be someone hedging. Who knows..
