At this point the only candidates that Trump worries about are Biden and Bloomberg.

Maybe, but no one in the GOP thinks so. No one in the GOP believes that he is electable so long as he continues to call himself a socialist.
Depends if they're playing checker or chess with this kind of talk. I think there is a strong case that Sanders undercuts the exact electoral flip that got Trump elected in 2016. I think a 2020 matchup between Sanders and Trump hinges on Virginia. Guess that "do you think it is important to get rid of Trump at any cost" talk from centrists trying to browbeat progressives would apply here.

Don't really care - but answer this question: Will Americans vote for a president who openly calls himself a socialist?

Forget that there is a clear distinction between what his ideology really means vs. what Americans think of Socialism. Most people who vote are not capable of understanding the distinction, and most who are capable will not dig deeply enough to learn the distinction.

So, will Americans vote for a Socialist in sufficient numbers to put him in office? Forget the name - it won't matter. His name will be "Socialist".

A Sanders nomination will keep a lot of D voters at home again, I'm afraid. I know quite a few who absolutely hate Sanders and consider him an outsider, not a real D.
If Bernie is not the nominee, a lot of D voters are staying at home again too. There is no third way. Vote fash or vote demsoc. These are the only two paths forward in my opinion. The right wing one will be our ruin. The left wing one will be rich people's slight discomfort.

I had lunch with my self-described "radical socialist" friend yesterday. H described how impeachment will result in the banishment of the Republican party from the halls of power for decades.
It is remarkable to me the extent to which humans believe the majority sees things exactly the way they do.
I have no such illusions. I see affairs quite differently from most Americans. I, nevertheless, believe I am right, but I fully acknowledge that my views are unusual.
I have no idea how the next election will turn out. I still cannot believe Trump won 2016.
