Well, I was alive. I think he got it mainly out of party loyalty, as Humphrey, and, yes, Hillary, did...

I haven't been surprised a lick by the day-to-day of the Trump presidency and I imagine folks in other states that matter that decided to stay home rather than vote for Clinton knew it too. They just didn't care. You can judge that however you want but it doesn't change that their vote wasn't there in a state that mattered.

Losing Presidential Candidates Nominated a Second Time

    Nixon
    Stevenson
    Thomas Dewey (1944, 48)
    William Jennings Bryan (1896, 1900, 1908)
    Henry Clay (1824, 1832, 1844)
    William Henry Harrison (1836, 1840)
    Andrew Jackson (1824, 1828, 1832)
    Thomas Jefferson (1796, 1800)
    This is the darkest timeline.

Granted, it would be very difficult to get passed, but the mere mention of something along these lines has to be damaging to all but the very left.

Do you think anything that is happening, other than (in twisted irony) the Republican President coming unglued and disengaging the middle repub base, with the democratic candidates to bring them back?

I think I understand what you were posting. One thing the Trump campaign needs to ponder and which rgw has touched on - there is probably very, very little overlap between the Obama and Trump bases. The Obama wins were by much more convincing than Trumps skin-of-the-teeth EC victory. It won't take many of those slumbering voters to become activated, and he's done his best to accomplish that, and Trump literally drowns in the popular vote and also the EC...

I've come around on Warren a bit. She may engage enough to win especially with the growing Trump imbroglio likely shaking off all but his true believers.

I can't help but remember that nearly half the voters in this state still voted pedo in 2017 and that was a bad-turnout GOP election. GOP base will turn their nose up and vote for nearly anyone who will take it to the ethnic/identity groups they don't like.

I would prefer the most moderate democrat possible to win the election, but I will vote for anyone that is not Trump this election. I agree that anyone with a D by their name is not winning the presidential in Alabama but maybe they can keep it respectable.
