It is not just messaging - dems actually support sanctuary cities/states. Those are not words - they are actions.
True. And to be clear I don't like those committing serious criminal offenses being let out to do more harm when they are the very ones who should be deported. That said, we shouldn't be going after otherwise law abiding parents dropping their kids off at school and American born citizens should not end up in line for deportation or worse.

that's the point of the divisiveness the gop and putin's folks are inundating us with via social media/internet/etc.

authoritarians gain power by dividing their opposition and that is what they are trying to do.
I am not talking about issues that divide democrats - I am talking about issues that divide American swing voters.

Sanders does not care about swing voters. He says openly that they won't matter because Americans are going to come out in such huge numbers, never seen before, to see Trump removed from office. Well, to steal a phrase, that is a hope and hope is not a strategy.

I'm hoping sanders is not the nominee, but i won't hesitate to vote for him if he is. i'm sure there are lots of folks in the same group, but have no idea how many that is

Aside from the economy, those are the issues as defined by the two parties. And if the economy is going to decide this, we might as well stay home.

Democrats need to win the other issues, because Trump is going to win on the economy, and the economy is the largest factor in determining votes.

I am not sure how you think the democrats win without winning swing votes in these areas.
If the economy is really doing so good, why do we need a trillion dollar yearly deficit to support it. Unfortunately the average voter doesn't understand this and their eyes glaze over if anyone tries to explain it. The dems need to find a simple way to explain this to take the 'good economy' issue away from the orange liar-in-cheif

Again, this is an argument that won't swing a single vote. Both parties support huge deficits - just directed differently.

Yes but at least Obama had the deficit heading in the right direction before Trump took over. If we simply throw up our hands and give up on deficits and climate change, we are all screwed.

I don't disagree, especially about climate change. Climate change is an issue that will get people to the polls.

I’m in this boat. I just think Trump would paint Sanders as a Trotskyist and would destroy him on economic policy debates. The problem is that many would bite it and take it to the ballot box.

Sanders is probably the one candidate that I feel would lose both the popular and EC vote.

I agree with this. I think it would be McGovern and Muskie all over again and Trump would not be slow to claim his "mandate"...

This is a reply to a post from a friend from HS, who is further left than I. Her friend is black, as well as being gay. He was replying to a quote from Megan McCain...

You know I cannot stand Megan and she is like the worst of the worst when it come to entitled children.

I know as a gay I should by default to many people be on team Pete but I just cannot buy what he is selling and he doesn't carry enough appeal to minority groups to carry the ticket to a victory. Even though most traditionally vote for a Democratic ticket they are way behind the curve on acceptance of gay marriage and a homosexual life style.

We need a person who can win at any cost.

I dunno guys.

I feel that if Sanders is the nominee - and (a big if) the other dems get behind him - I think he'd have a chance. Maybe the best chance of all the candidates at this point.

A lot will happen between now and November.

There are many in the country looking for something new and different.

So you would vote for him?

I've said it before, but people will vote for a radical candidate like Sanders only out of desperation. If we were in the middle of a recession, he'd have a chance, but not during a ten-year old economic boom. There are underlying problems with the economy which aren't being addressed, but, as you've said yourself, when they're drawing a paycheck and their neighbor is also, they're not going to concern themselves with anything further...

Can't disagree.

I don't see everyone getting behind the eventual democratic candidate anyway.

But we'll see. Long way until November.

“You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier.”
- Joe Biden

Biden's not gonna out-Trump Trump, so I'm not sure what's going on here...
Thing is, if you aren't 80 or a fan of old westerns, you would have no idea what he said there.

He is trying to attract older and more conservative voters within the democratic party by acting like a tough guy. It won't matter. He is bleeding cash. He should just drop out, but he has his hopes pinned on South Carolina. But, at this point, I am not sure if he will even win there.

The GOP is continuing to smear the Biden’s. They’re doing it either because the think Biden is the candidate they fear the most (and Sanders the least) or because Trump is just obsessed, or both. This raises enough doubt among swing voters to ruin Biden’s chances. I think Biden will drop out after Super Tuesday.

He's the most established candidate, but it appears (from the early caucuses) that he's not the people's choice. I think that, for now, he's the 'frontrunner' and until that changes, the focus won't change.

I expect him to come behind Pete and maybe even Klob tomorrow. Sanders probably wins NH while the moderate vote is split between these three.

I know Biden is the default choice of minorities right now, but you've gotta wonder if that changes after 2 weeks of awful news coverage about Biden's dying campaign. His whole shtick is "I'm the electable one," and if he can't even win over whites in the Northeast and Midwest, that foundation has to start crumbling. If that happens, do they go to the "socialist," the gay dude, or the white lady? The next few weeks will be interesting.
