Re: Kyriq McDonald and Scott Meyer Enter Transfer Portal

Like early signing day I think I will wait another year and see how this plays itself out. This might be an advantage for all schools. Everyone has some players who won't start and when some of them leave we can look for other "non-starters" who might fit better here.
I do not believe in atheists, therefore they do not exist.

This is FREE AGENCY at its worst.
As long as the coaches can come and go as they please, the kids should be able to as well. Manny Diaz was at Temple for like 17 days but that's no big deal, a kid finds out he doesn't like a program and he should be stuck there?
I need you out there slinging coconuts and pineapples!

There appears to be a pretty big misunderstanding of the transfer portal. All it does is let other schools know a player is considering a transfer. It takes the player's current school out of the equation when a potential landing spot wants to contact the player. That's it.

There's no free agency because of the transfer portal.

I agree that it does not create some sort of free agency, but it is a little more than you suggest. If a player lists himself in the portal, the school that he is currently under scholarship with can drop his scholarship - effective immediately if he is between terms, or effective at the end of the current term if he is still in class. So, a player who lists himself in the portal also gives the school options with respect that player and his scholarship.

Oh good grief. Hope no one was laughing too hard at the Fields departure.

He simply didn't have the "beef" to play in the SEC yet. He sounds like he's very impatient and maybe a bit immature

Eyabi Anoma baffles me. I expected him to be at a minimum a rotational starter next season. I wonder if he just didn't like the work load required ? or is he just so homesick he can't cope?. Depending on how his college career goes it could be a huge loss. We've seen guys like this transfer before and to be honest aside from Alvin Kamera I don't recall any of them succeeding at a high level and Kamara only succeeded when he got away from the black hole otherwise known is UT.

I think that Kendall Sheffield did pretty well, but I agree, it's not the norm.

Well, I hate it but I haven't walked in that kid's shoes. Some people just don't fit in. Best of luck to him, and I hope he goes back to Big Ten country.

This guy is athletically different than the some of the others that left. His upside is huge. We just need better coaching next year. Have we ever had a 5 star transfer after their freshman year?
