Didn't get to see the whole thing but liked what I did see. The president came across as presidential first and foremost.

Obviously if you're a Trump hater, the whole thing stunk....lol.....

Let the fisticuffs fly......

:pDT_popc1:
I thought about getting odds yesterday morning on if he'd give you the tingles again or not but I knew it was a forgone conclusion.

How was America saved from becoming a third world country in 2016? Is there some major event I missed?
Well we elected a dictator wannabe that has done everything he can to enrich himself and create a banana republic atmosphere who is also bound and determined to bring down our institutions at the bidding of his hostile foreign power handler. But even though all of that takes us closer to third world country status than we've ever been it's still somehow a saving throw from having a woman be in charge.

Just skimmed the transcript. Lots of fearmongering over immigrants and "socialism," which I'm sure won him points among those who still label themselves Republican. Lots of exaggerated numbers and misleading omissions. So, it went pretty much exactly as expected.

An economic miracle is taking place in the United States — and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics or ridiculous partisan investigations. If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation.
Absurd and cringey. Also, pretty sure Nixon tried the same thing.

The next major priority for me, and for all of us, should be to lower the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs — and to protect patients with pre-existing conditions.
Complete lie. Trump's administration has opposed pre-existing coverage protection in court.

Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments from birth.
Another lie.

Nothing surprising in the comments from posters or social media. His supporters still support him and his detractors still hate him. He could have literally stood up there and told knock-knock jokes or just said blah blah blah blah and gotten the same result from both sides.

He always falls back on "somebody said it," which everyone knows means Fox News...

I was too busy binging NCIS on Netflix. Just now started watching that show for some reason. At any rate, it seems that was more in touch with reality than the state of the union.

America will never be a socialist country. [emoji837]⚪[emoji838][emoji631][emoji631][emoji631]
So just how much of a percentage of the federal budget being devoted to socialistic programs would you consider necessary before you considered America a socialist country.

Here is a page that breaks down the 2018 budget. The article explains that in a budget of 4.407 Trillion USD 62% of that is mandatory spending, totaling 2.739 Trillion USD. It is this mandatory spending that was legislated and obligated to be recurring budgetary line items which covers payments for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

I happen to be of the belief that these three programs are at their very nature socialistic in nature. All three are paid for through federal taxes upon citizens income. The government controls how much is taken out. The government controls what is done with that money while it is being held. The government even gets to determine who has access to the payouts of the money they collect. That pretty much seems to be the definition of socialism.

You may not agree, but here is is a nice article that breaks down how Social Security works, and comparative ideals of a socialistic philosophy.

In all fairness, not all of that mandatory spending may be going to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Here is an article that says in 2015 those three only accounted for 51% of the budget.

To sum it all up, if you are willing to see Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid as socialistic programs, whether the percentage of the budget is 51% or 62% how much more than either of those numbers would the percentage need to rise before you were willing to admit that America was already in many respects a socialistic country? My old math classes taught me anything over 50% was a majority.

Bazz, you are a friend and a respected poster, but most on here are not going to respect or put any stock in what a serial liar has to say.
