The Crimson Tide secured the series with the game-two victory

2/27/2019

TUSCALOOSA, AL –
Alabama baseball came away with a 4-1 win over North Alabama on Wednesday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. With the victory, the Crimson Tide claimed the series and improves to 7-2 on the season.

"I was really glad to get the win tonight," said Alabama head coach Brad Bohannon. "Certainly, we weren't as sharp as we have been at times this year. Unfortunately, it's to be expected when you have a lot of youth and inexperience. I'm certainly glad to get a win when we didn't necessarily play our best and learn a good lesson, that we have to play better if we want to have a successful weekend coming up."

Alabama scored first in the bottom of the third, but UNA matched with one run of its own in the top of the fifth to even things up. The Tide then tallied two in the fifth and added one in the seventh to come away with the Wednesday victory. Redshirt freshman Chase Lee (1-0) collected his first career win while Jacob McNairy (1) earned a save with his 2.0 scoreless innings to close things out.

The Crimson Tide struck first for a second straight day, putting one run on the board in the third. A leadoff walk from freshman Drew Williamson forced a Lion pitching change. The new arm would get two outs but also load the bases in the process for Morgan McCullough. The junior dug in and watched four pitches go by to draw the walk and cross the game's first run.

North Alabama answered with one run of its own in the top of the fifth to even the score up, but UA came right back with a two spot in the home half of the frame. Junior John Trousdale began the inning with a single and was followed by a double from senior Joe Breaux to put both runners in scoring position. Brett Auerbach then brought in the go-ahead mark, as the junior sent a sacrifice fly to deep right. McCullough followed with a single through the left side to bring in the second run and set the score at 3-1 through five.

In the seventh, another walk with the bases loaded, this one to Williamson, added one more for Alabama to move things to a three-run advantage at 4-1. McNairy entered for the eighth and ninth, allowing only one hit and striking out one Lion hitter to secure the save.

Next up for Alabama is the team's first road series of the 2019 season as the Crimson Tide heads to Mobile on Friday to take on South Alabama. The series opener at Stanky Field is set for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch followed by a 2 p.m. start on Saturday and a scheduled 1 p.m. opening on getaway day. All three games will air live through the Jaguars' athletics website, USAJaguars.com.
