Serious question for my blue friends here....Why are so many in the Democratic Party kowtowing to this woman?

She's been in office less than 90 days, and already "taking names" of those who don't toe her line? What?

She's also off the charts to the left. When Diane Feinstein and Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are distancing themselves, you know it's extreme.

She's advocating positions that would destroy the value of every asset in the country -- pension plans, 401ks, IRAs, home values, you name it. And she's been busted several times on hypocrisy -- wearing $3,500 pantsuits while advocating for "the working people," decrying the evils of the beef industry and meat in general, but photographed noshing on a burger. Response is historically typical for Socialist and Communist dictators -- she attacks the whistle-blowers, and promises to remember them.

I honestly believe she and several like her are taking your party so far left that it's making re-election of Donald Trump is a realistic outcome.

So I'm honestly bumfuzzled. Why is the Democratic Party leadership fostering this? You have a buffoon of a Republican in the White House, and a golden opportunity to take it back. And rather than present a reasonable rational alternative (and being more reasonable and rational than Trump isn't exactly a high bar), this is the response? Really?

I honestly don't give her more attention than any other elected politician. It's the right who are keeping the spotlight on her ideas and the megaphone in her hand.

Why do you care if she's arguing with moderate Democrats who wanted to empower ICE? You're giving into the Fox boogeyman narrative when you shrink in fear over her "taking names" comment while Pelosi was in the same room, saying the same thing, trying to keep the moderates from jumping ship.

As for your dire predictions of financial ruin, you must be referring to the Green New Deal, which isn't even a piece of legislation. Broadly speaking, for young people who plan to be alive in 50 years, we would really appreciate if the older generations would kindly step aside and let us fix the mess that they keep ignoring. To do so, you seem to think that Emperor AOC would somehow rise to power and demand high-speed train networks alongside the creation of a vast renewable energy infrastructure and widespread retrofitting of every existing building within our borders, bankrupting our economy. Again, you're falling into the Fox narrative of fear. The GND is just a list of ambitious ideas, not an actual bill, and there is literally no reality where everything listed therein occurs simultaneously. The only reason it's still being talked about (and getting more popular with exposure) is because the right is obsessed and because Fox wants to direct your thinking in an irrational direction.

Let's be frank: it's the Republicans who are actively crippling our economy before the next recession, using tax subsidies for the uber-rich and an insane amount of deficit spending during a bull market. They invoke the dread of "socialism" to distract from this reality. With AOC specifically, the right is building up a straw-woman just so they can demonize her, because they know fear is the strongest motivator for their constituents. Don't fall for it.

Good question 4Q and something i would like to know also. I have been criticized, like others on here who are moderates (centrist), but could no longer support any Republican candidate. We also believe Trump is unfit and unqualified to serve as President without going into the sordid details of his presidency.

I have made your exact same statement in the Demo candidate thread and have yet to hear anything that makes sense. I do agree with you that her rise to prominence in the Dem caucus and pushing the social democrat issue is likely to guarantee Trump another term in the WH. America is not ready to move as far left as she obviously proposes. It is up to Pelosi and more respected moderate Dems to reign her in if they want a shot at the WH next year.

i really haven't paid that much attention to her other than what is posted here.

like i said yesterday, she does has everyone in a tizzy.

if that many folks are in the camp of dems had better run biden/miquetoast old white "moderate" (who most of them would never actually cast a vote for in a general election) or else they will be voting for trump again, then our country is screwed and frankly we deserve what we get.

this is just another of the many forms of gaslighting we see regularly

She certainly has the Trumpies fired up. I see at least one Facebook meme every day dedicated to her, usually saying she is stupid.

This is from the same crowd that accuses the left of suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

She's popular with the media and the various interview programs because she's the flavor of the month. Crazy eyes, squeaky voice, the speech pattern and idealism without consequences philosophy of a child - she's a cartoon character. And who doesn't like cartoons? Add to her being the latest GOP boogeyman as others have pointed out, and her celebrity is perpetual.

The right wings are frazzled and up in arms over her because she's simply the Trump version of the left wing. She's just as crazy to the left as he is to the right. They'd probably make a great reality show if they teamed up.

the both sides version of newton's third law
I've listened enough to both of them (Trump and Ocasio-Cortez) and for me personally they are both loons. But hey, I'm not the measuring stick of normal. They both seem to be a lot of people's flavor of ice cream. So if one of them is "your" flavor, then by all means get a double scoop with sprinkles.

They are both loons. But, the tribalist is blind to their own lunacy, or at best the excuse is that their guy/gal is using lunacy merely to start a national discussion. (Why not start a national discussion with sane proposals? That concept is drowned out by the clap clap clapclapclap.)

I actually think if they both were on the same ticket as president and vice president that between their extremes we might actually land somewhere in the middle. LOL!

This is a serious mischaracterization. Trump's only ideology is his own brand; he supports the ideology that keeps him in power. AOC, sharp contrast, is a young firebrand--she believes in the programs she's proposing.

Also, as evidenced by her questions to Cohen, she's got a good head on her shoulders--again, in sharp contrast to Trump.

Yup. She's a naive idiot child who expects handouts, like when she worked herself through college and went from waiting tables to unseating one of the most powerful incumbent Democrats in the House.

She embodies the qualities Republicans claim to hold dearest, and they hate her for it. The psychology of how others react to AOC will inspire doctoral theses for decades.

Again, she is some people's flavor of ice cream and to them what she says sounds level headed and normal. Which is common when someone says things that line up with what we already believe. It is fascinating to read and hear how different, people interpret her views and ideas, even within her own party. Much like Trump and those within the GOP.

And simply because someone believes in what they're doing, doesn't bring any credibility or legitimacy to what they're trying to do. History is filled with examples for us to refer to.

While I agree with your comments, her beliefs, right or wrong and whether they are ahead of their time or not will be tied to whomever the Dems' candidate is and alienate most moderate independents. Unfortunately change versus quo won't beat Trump.
