Congress Job Approval Highest Since 2009
Story Highlights
  • 49% approve of job President Trump is doing
  • 31% approve of way Congress is handling its job
  • Approval of Congress has not been higher since 2009
The latest congressional approval rating comes from a May 1-13 Gallup poll, conducted as the nation continues to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

Congress has passed four bills to address the public health and economic harm caused by COVID-19 and is considering further legislation. Gallup found roughly eight in 10 Americans approving of the $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill passed in late March to provide relief for businesses and individuals affected by the coronavirus situation. Congress' approval rating for handling the coronavirus situation is 48%, well above its overall approval rating.

Who the hell did they ask? I also love that they think 31% is "high".
Funny you should mention that.

Given that we're talking about a partisan pool of voters......in theory....it seems like reaching 50% would be a pretty even rating.

That said - sure - our standard should be much greater than just breaking even.

That's a whole different discussion. It boils down to sleight of hand. Essentially people get distracted by party politics while the fox is raiding the hen house. Break that routine and you've taken the first step.

Getting back to the polling - I wonder what the current approval rating is for the media? ;)

It's not us against us. It's us against them.....this man has it right....

Before the Farm Aid 2014 festival in North Carolina, Farm Aid asked Reverend William J. Barber II to give a keynote address to our gathering of farmers and farm and food advocates from across the country. Rev. Barber spoke of the tenets of his Poor People’s Campaign: education, anti-poverty support, healthcare, environmental protection, fair wages and jobs, labor rights, and the rights of immigrants, black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), women, and LGBT people. Then he explained how those issues are all connected to farmers and rural people—to all of us.

Paul Harvey (1918-2009) was a radio broadcaster for the ABC Radio Networks.

He gave the "Policeman" speech on talk radio nearly 40 years ago and it is known as one of his best speeches.

Mr. Harvey's father inspired this speech. He was a police officer who was shot and killed while doing what police officers do every day. The text to the speech is included in the video.

I've had my share of issue with law enforcement. But overall they do a good job for us that most wouldn't care for.

After the Civil War, black cowboys played a key role in settling the West, and their heritage is honored by African American cowboys and rodeo riders today. "CBS This Morning: Saturday" co-host Michelle Miller talked with members of the Compton Cowboys, a Los Angeles group of riders who take to the streets of South Central on horseback; and with participants in the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, named for the famed African American Wild West Show star.
