Social Security is headed for insolvency by 2035, government says

The financial condition of the governmentís bedrock retirement programs for middle- and working-class Americans remains shaky, with Medicare pointed toward insolvency by 2026.

Thatís the word from the latest report by the governmentís overseers of Medicare and Social Security. It paints a sobering picture of the programs, though itís relatively unchanged from last yearís update. Social Security would become insolvent in 2035, one year later than previously estimated.

Both programs will need to eventually be addressed to avert automatic cuts should their trust funds run dry. Neither President Donald Trump nor Capitol Hillís warring factions has put political perilous cost curbs on their to-do list.

So does this mean giving medical coverage to every person, even if they arenít a citizen, is a bad idea?

Last week (on Wed. actually), I got my 9th SS deposit since applying for my retirement benefit last July.....and was thinking just how lovely it was.

I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

    That is all......

Of course not. It's a fantastic idea. Just as is giving social security to those who haven't paid into the system or giving them more than one has paid in. Warren's plan to forgive all government backed student debt is another wonderful idea. Open borders too. A living wage is also brilliant.

Slightly better. Last year insolvency was 2034. This year 2035.

Two separate problems. SS can be fixed with a tweak. Medicare, not so much. However, it continually surprises me that people actually think that they are not paying for medical care for everyone, when they are paying for it in the most expensive way possible - through the ER. Every public hospital's largest line item is unreimbursed care...
