The Bulldogs recorded six two-run innings for the Friday victory

5/17/2019

ATHENS, GA –
Alabama baseball fell to sixth-ranked Georgia by a score of 12-2 on Friday night at Foley Field. The game-two outcome clinches the series for the Bulldogs and moves the Crimson Tide to 30-25 overall, 7-22 in Southeastern Conference play.

"To Georgia's credit, they really took it to us tonight," said Alabama head coach Brad Bohannon. "They scored in six of the eight innings, got 17 hits and really beat us in all facets of the game. They're a really, really complete team, and (Foley Field) is a hard place to win. We're going to have to play our absolute best baseball tomorrow to keep our season going."

The Bulldogs tallied two-run innings on six occasions Friday for the series-clinching win. Alabama was able to get on the board with single tallies in the third and eighth, and had runners on base in nearly every inning, but was unable to pull any closer. Georgia starter Tony Locey (10-1) picked up the win with 6.0 innings of one-run baseball, while Crimson Tide starter Brock Love (5-5) was handed the loss.

Georgia jumped out front with a two-run second for the early advantage. Alabama would answer, cutting the lead in half with a solo home run from Tyler Gentry in the top of the third to make it a 2-1 game. The homer was the sophomore's team-leading 13th of the year and his second in as many games.

The Bulldogs then posted a pair of runs in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh before the Crimson Tide was able to add one more in the top of the eighth. A wild pitch brought Drew Williamson in from third for Alabama's second run. The freshman got aboard with a one-out walk and a double to center from fellow freshman T.J. Reeves moved Williamson to third before the run-scoring play. Georgia came right back in the home half of the eighth, notching its sixth pair of runs on the night for the 12-2 advantage.

Alabama and Georgia will wrap up the series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. CT first pitch at Foley Field. The Crimson Tide will send senior righty Sam Finnerty to the hill while the Bulldogs call on sophomore Emerson Hancock, also a right-hander. The regular-season finale for both teams can be seen on SEC Network+.
