YouTube is looking horrible every day after the Crowder vs Vox issue. Vox's Carlos Maza had been actively sending up a tweet storm and emailing YouTube to try to get Crowder demonetized and banned for personal attacks on Maza's sexuality and race. He often cited that Crowder was utilizing hate speech which violates Youtube's terms and conditions and should be demonetized and banned. YouTube responded by saying " Crowder didn't break any rules against our policies of hate speech, but we will demonetize it non the less".
There are some huge problems with this because 1) the ruling was clearly half ..... in that noone really knows what is out of bounds or for whom it is out of bounds for on YouTube, 2) There are far worse channels that are guilty of the same things Crowder was guilty of that YouTube goes out of its way to protect, and 3) everyone is now going to be even more scared of demonetization and a second Adpocalypse
I think YouTube hiding behind these arbitrary rules and strike systems they have for years has finally caught up to them because its no longer a 4k subscriber channel going against a 300 subscriber channel about hate speech in which no one would really know what happened. Its now 4 million subscriber channels going against a 6 million subscriber base on hate speech. I think YouTube has to decide what is allowed and what is not real fast because this shows they don't even know when its between two channels that make it a lot of money.
FTR I think Crowder is a moron that only likes to strike up controversy for the hell of it, but at some point you have to either ban him or just tell Maza to deal with it because taking the compromise route in this particular route seemed to solve nothing.
