    CFN SEC Preview 2019: Still The Best Conference ... By Far

    Of course the No. 1 team in any Power Five league – or UCF or Boise State – could beat any great SEC team. Sure, for example, Florida is beatable, but then win at Mississippi State, and then win against Auburn, and then at Alabama, and then at Ole Miss and against Arkansas late in the season before closing out against Texas A&M. That’s what LSU has to do.

    So what makes the league so good? Talent, talent, and talent.

    Recruiting rankings hardly mean everything or anything, but since the dawn of services, the SEC has destroyed all the other Power Five conferences – most of the time, combined – when it comes to bringing in the top prospects, and the NFL has proven that to be true.

    In the 2019 NFL Draft, over a quarter of the players taken came from the SEC, doubling up everyone – all the Group of Five conferences included – but the Big Ten and Pac-12 …

    I think Clemson is the best team in the history of college football. They embarrassed Alabama on the biggest national stage and will embarrass Alabama again should Alabama be unlucky enough to draw Clemson in the playoffs. Clemson, Clemson, Clemson...

    (Hoping Bama players read this and get angry. Like, really angry).

    Actually that is what perennial Bama hater Tim Brando is predicting:

    Two things, only tangentially related:

    First:
    The thing the rest of the country denies is the grind of the SEC. Lesser teams can rise up and beat an SEC team, but it's usually the first game of the season, or a bowl game outside of the playoff (i.e. meaningless). In either set of circumstances, they have several weeks or months to prepare, along with a possibly less-than-motivated opponent. Lots of stuff can happen, yet this is what they latch onto.

    Let UCF or Boise or Utah or any number of similar schools play an SECW schedule, or even and SECE, they'd have 4-6 losses come December.

    It's not just winning an isolated game. It's playing through the grind. Most of the country knows that, but they put their fingers in their ears and hum when the subject comes up. The example of LSU's schedule is enlightening.

    Second;
    Remind Timmy B of his vocal backing of Ole Miss ahead of the 2010 season. They had won the Cotton Bowl the previous two seasons, and Timmy was so far out on a limb with this ballyhooing, he couldn't see the branch, let alone the trunk of the tree. OM ended the 2010 season 4-8, and followed that up with a 2-10 campaign.

    Brando spouts what he wishes were true, not what is, or even what he believes. He is about as accurate as Charles from Reeltown. One day, he might get something right. But it'll bear a lot more resemblance to Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory than it will to thoughtful and informed analysis.
    You can't reason a man out of a position he didn't reason himself into.

    CFN stating the obvious and obvious it is if one looks at the data both in recruiting and on field. Too bad there are many who won't look at the data without skewing it.
