Definitely something from nothing, but, in a particularly dull Media Days, the hacks will seize on anything they can remotely spin. That said, Moses probably should've given a different answer. Live, learn, and post what the Clemson guy said in the locker room.

My thought is that there is no reaction available or possible that Saban could have had to the loss to Clemson that sportswriters would not pick apart, looking for an angle to criticize. After all his winning, he's a prime target no matter what.

If, after the game, Saban just said they were the better team and whipped us, people would ask how that could happen, especially given the talent on the team? The coverage angle would not help future recruiting, to say the least.

On the other hand, if he tries to explain what areas he saw room for improvement in (coaching stability and distractions from new jobs waiting, for example,) then he's making excuses.

I try to remind myself that sports are done for entertainment of the spectators and this damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't choice is all part of it.

Saban has given Clemson credit for that win countless times. He has also done what leaders do - looked internally to determine what could be done to mitigate the risk of it happening again. Saban's comments at the SEC Media circus was internally focused. Since he had already given Clemson credit, he did not need to couch his message. But the media has an agenda, and it is not to offer fair and balanced coverage. It is to earn money for their various media outlets. So the media takes the words and turns them into something that will accomplish that goal.

Saban said what he said. He was talking about mistakes made, and efforts to correct those mistakes.

Dabo took what Saban said and used it to his advantage. He knows what Saban is doing, but he doesn't have to publicly acknowledge that if it does not meet his agenda. And Dabo has a single agenda - help this year's team win. So he publicly took what Saban said as lacking respect because that helps his agenda.

Much ado about nothing.

I do have to admire the level of audacity it must take, for these people tell Coach Saban how to be a better coach.....

Criticize outcomes? Yes
Discuss poor executions? Sure

Tell him how to coach? Um....no

Opposing coaches and the media will do anything they can to twist Saban’s words.........people will find anything to be offended about, as long as it will help them

Thing is, they don't even need anyone to say anything. Fans, players, the media - they make up their own minds and then look for anything out there that validates what they are already thinking.

As for Dabo doing what he did - that is his job.

I think the vast majority of times Saban says things with effective strategic intent, but in this case he could have avoided the media circus by keeping this message internal. I get what he's saying and believe it had a negative impact on focus and preparation, but the optics are not good.
