I thought it might be fun to have a Heisman watch thread since the leading candidates are well known to all of us.

As of Week 3 ESPN has the Top 5 as this:

1) Oklahoma – Jalen Hurts
2) Alabama – Tua Tagovailoa
3) L8U – Joe Burrow
4) tOSU – Justin Fields
5) Texas – Sam Ehlinger

Vegas has a slightly different Take:

1) Alabama – Tua Tagovailoa 2/1 Odds
2) Oklahoma – Jalen Hurts 4/1 Odds
3) Clemson – Trevor Lawrence 7/1 Odds
4) tOSU – Justin Fields 8/1 Odds
5) L8U – Joe Burrow 9/1 Odds
6) UGA – Jake Fromm 20/1
7) Texas – Sam Ehlinger 20/1
8) Oregon – Justin Herbert 20/1

Justin Herbert:
77 for 105 (73.3%)(10[SUP]th[/SUP] NCAA) for 868 yards (15[SUP]th[/SUP] NCAA) at 8.3 YPA (43rd NCAA) and 11 TD’s (3[SUP]rd[/SUP] NCAA) 0 INT’s w/ a QBR of 177.34 (16[SUP]th[/SUP] NCAA)

So far it looks like a 3 man race between Jalen, Tua, and Burrow who are all putting up just ridiculous numbers right now.

After that Ehlinger and Herbert have similar stats but on teams with 1-Loss already.

Fields and Fromm follow in the next batch with less gaudy stats than the above 2 but on Undefeated teams.

Then Finally is Trevor Lawrence. Vegas has him 3rd but he looks to be in a major Sophomore slump right now. His stats aren't 'Bad' but statistically his basically barely a Top 25 QB right now.

It’s a two man race.

Jalen has drawn even with Tua, but he also has the momentum and the full support of the national media. That’s not a knock on Jalen, it’s just the state of play.

It's way too early to eliminate everyone from contention after just 3 weeks.

I agree that Jalen vs Tua is the main story they (The Media) would want to Hype, but things like unexpected team losses and various other factors could derail any campaign.

It's especially too early to write of Joe Burrow's numbers. He has impressively elevated his level of play.

If he keeps pace with Jalen and Tua and L8U comes into BDS undefeated then the winner of the game will likely become the Front Runner.

We can't fully count Trevor Lawrence out either. If he gets really hot during conference play and Clemson remains undefeated he will challenge Tua in the South and Eastern regions.

Fields, Fromm, and Ehlinger are 3 solid darkhorse contenders to at least grab an invite to NY.

The only player I just can't envision being invited is Justin Herbert. Oregon won't likely be in CFB playoff contention and Herbert's not on pace statistically to break any major Pac-12 records or anything. He's a really long shot.

If I were betting money right now though, I'd say Jalen is the favorite with the inside track. He's got crazy stats already and won't face any defense in the Big12 that can stop him. He also has the 'Underdog' story going. The main thing that could derail him is Oklahoma losing 1 or 2 shootout games with Jalen under performing.

I of course think Tua is the Best Player in the NCAA and he's already on pace to eclipse last years numbers. The problem is he can't afford to have 1 bad game... not one....

To win Tua has to DOMINATE the rest of the schedule on the way to a 13-0 record including several 'WOW" Heisman moments.

If for some reason he doesn't win and his Stats are better than last years it will be the biggest robbery since last year and on par with Deshaun Watson somehow inexplicably not winning the award after being the Best Player in the NCAA for 2 years.
