Saban mentioned a year ago that "the players like him", and something else along the lines of he likes his offensive acumen and brings value to the team. Not bad for $40k/yr or whatever we steal him for (plus whatever Tennessee pays us to have him).

Here is to bringing in the next Vols HC cast-off, Pruitt, for $40k/yr for his defensive acumen. At this rate, we will have $5 million/yr of coaching, brought to us courtesy of the nutty Tennessee fan base, for less than the cost of a shift leader at McDonalds.
Y'all don't want to forget his tonsorial administrating, either - all barber appointments at 'Bama (except for when LeBron's in town) go through Butch and the calendar he keeps in the pocket protector of his barbering smock.

Well, CNS must think he brings value to the Bama program, so until he changes his mind, I guess I'll have to disagree with all the naysayers

What exactly does Coach Jones do anyway?
I see him making notes during the game from time to time...probably little things he sees and doesn't want to forget. He also seems to be a solid encourager and a person whom the players can talk to when life/football is going well. They know he's been a head coach and they also know that he has CNS' ear.

As for the water in Knoxville -- it's called unrealistic expectations. When you think that the next coach is the immediate 'savior" then you are setting them up for failure. When the success does not come there is no patience with the HC or the program and then negativity sets in. BJ was actually a good HC...but could not overcome the expectation of immediate championships.

Yes, the problem with Jones was Tennessee, not Jones.

He's a good enough coach. He did well at Cincinnati. No one is going into Tennessee and bringing them back from the dead.
I agree, but he was also not a cultural fit there. Some of his motivational themes just did not resonate with the team or the fan base. He lost them, and they quit playing. But he had typical TN talent - not great, but far from terrible.

Pruitt came into this job thinking that he had taken over a team with no talent, and he said so publicly. That alienated everyone on the roster, and most of those guys are playing for him still. So, whether he was correct or not, he lost those players before he ever got a chance to coach them. And without the resources to recruit like Alabama, he is never going to have the talent that he became accustomed to. He will have to learn to do more with less at TN. Not sure that is possible when he insulted half the team on day one.

There's also another term for it:

"ConVOLsions"

From Webster's (not really):

ConVOLsions - 1. The widespread delusion of thinking that your team somehow "deserves" to be a national contender, regardless of how many mistakes it makes, or the severity of said mistakes.

2. Looking at the past, usually a brief period, and thinking that it should dictate the future, regardless of the fact that said brief period was a fluke.

3. The belief that any head coach above the peewee level would want to take over your has-been program.

4. A denial of karma.

There was also the incident in his introductory press conference where he said...... "Nothing sucks like a Big Orange."

Okay. He didn't. But he should have.
