Why would the Democrats be trying to destroy the Republican party when he is doing it for them? Also I think he is saying the destruction of the Republican party would put our country at stake. LOL
It was always going to end this way, and the GOP bears the responsibility for what happens to it.

Every single person who ever trusted this guy for anything has been burned - from his ex-wives to his current wife to the USFL owners to the gambling casino guys to his own lawyers to anyone else.

John Kasich is probably sitting at home thinking, "You know, I'd be disgraced, too, if I'd opted to climb on board that train."

it's always projection. it's a classic gaslighting technique to flip the script and republicans have it "perfected"

I'm seeing a couple of articles and statements come out that there is some dissension in the Republican Senate ranks. The gist is that Republican Senators hate Trump, but also fear him, and that if he is impeached, they will keep quiet up to the point of the vote, when they vote to remove. It would take 20 to do that.

It's kind of like trying to overthrow a medieval King. If you try it, you'd better be dang sure you can remove him. Because if you try but don't succeed, revenge will be public and extremely painful.

Trump is such a buffoon that he has to be embarrassing Republican Senate leadership and rank and file Senators. But he's also such a vindictive person that any hint of that ahead of time is putting a noose around your own neck. So the idea kind of passes the smell test. But it's early, sources are still sketchy, and that sort of thing has never happened before. Still, a lot of stuff over the past couple of years has never happened before.

So a couple of questions for the board: Do you think that might happen? If so, who would get the Republican nomination?

My personal thoughts: I hope it does, but don't think it will. It would require coordinating too many votes -- at least 20 -- while keeping an airtight lid on the plan. Just too many people involved to maintain secrecy. But if they somehow pull it off, the nomination goes to Romney because he has anti-Trump bona fides. Whereas Pence would have the Oval Office, but too much Trump stank on him.

The GOP spent the last 40 years dumbing their base down with propaganda. Trump took over that propaganda machine and now owns it completely. Any Republican that dares stand up to Trump is now a RINO by default no matter what reason. They've painted themselves into a corner. I think it is why we've seen so many retirements rather than re-elections in the GOP. Who knows how it will play out.

i just don't see enough of them going against them, but it's always tough to tell in situations like this because trump will throw everyone under the bus before he allows something to happen to him and that may push some folks over the edge.

You ask very good questions.

The disadvantage we have in answering is we would like to attribute rational thought and reasoning that would go into making these decisions, and in my opinion, those elements have been missing in the GOP Senate for a good while now.

If you want my prediction, imagine the most craven approach they could take and then get ready.

It is like having a grizzly charging you and you have a gun with one bullet, you better not miss.

The R's would need to choose someone without the stank of trump on them. That is hard to find these days. Romney would lose to anyone the D's could put out. I doubt the R's have anyone right now that the D's would not find some backdoor connection to Trump.

the problem isn't finding someone without Trumps stink, they exist. The problem is the that Trumps Base wants the stink, they demand the stink. I think Trump Jr would poll better at this point than say Justin Amash or any other Republican that stood up to Trump
