POTUS does set policy and can choose to use an irregular channel.
What he can't do lawfully is to use policy for personal/political gain. That is against the law.

The two were working against each other.
If somebody can't understand that and the problem with it, they are deliberately ignoring facts.
The State Department, had been trying to tamp down Russian influence and oppose Putin's annexation of part of Ukraine. The secret channel seems to be trying to prevent any pushback against the Russians.
This is like living in a looney bin that we are to this point, with people still defending what went on.

When Biden did that, he was working in concert with State Department/U.S. goals to advance what was in the U.S.'s best interest. He was not fishing for dirt on a domestic political opponent.

Even if he was, he's not the one up for impeachment and wasn't President. If someone wants to try and charge Biden with a crime, then do it. Trying to prove that Trump isn't the only criminal in politics doesn't really help his case.

Come on guys, without that they don't even have a defense. And that's not fair to them. The snowflakes deserve a safe place to get participation trophies for their poor defense attempts.

As more sham impeachment proceedings get underway— this time in public— remember the Socialist Democrat goal in all this. It isn’t to remove President Trump from office, it’s to maximize Socialist Democrat chances of keeping the House and taking the Senate and White House in 2020. There's always the "We're on a mission from God" defense. Of course, we should all remember how well that defense played out:
As another poster said, POTUS can choose to use an irregular channel. That in and of itself is not illegal, and other presidents have chosen to use such channels on occasion. The fact that POTUS chose to do something in an irregular way could be some evidence that he had something to hide. Not determinative in and of itself, but one relevant fact. If this were all that this case rested on, it would be a laughably weak case, but there is way more evidence than that. Part of the Republican strategy here is to pick at tiny strands like this and pretend that they are the entire ball of yarn.

Kelly Ann Conway was on CNN this morning and Wolf Blitzer just sat there and let her run her mouth for ten minutes without stopping. One point she keeps harping on is that Democrats have been trying ever since Trump was elected to get him out of office. Let's say I have a neighbor, and I have been telling police for three years that this guy is a thief. He gets caught stealing. So should the courts not prosecute because I told them so for three years?
