That is great news that she is breathing on her own. Stay on top of her care and get her up and moving as soon as possible. Lots of deep breathing and coughing and using her incentive spirometer. She won't get to rest until she is home and that is what we are all praying for.
They are removing her breathing tube right now. We were asked to give them 30 minutes. Not in the clear yet, but a whole better than last night. Words of thanks to all of you escape me right now.

I just got home, will be headed back to the hospital tonight or tomorrow morning. My wife has opened her eyes, and is well aware of what has happened and where she is. She is working with a speech specialist today. She can talk but some words are a little slurred. I had to come home for some sleep, a shower, and get my meds which I haven't had since Wednesday. This whole ordeal has been the scariest thing that I have ever experienced.

The surgeon said
the most recent CAT scan was unchanged and she was showing improvement. She sat up this morning and they will likely put in a feeding tube since she is still having some problem swallowing. The PT indicated that they would begin therapy tomorrow.
I will keep you updated when I can.

A couple of years ago, at Christmas, my wife showed all the signs of a stroke. When we got to the ER, the tests showed hyponatremia (low sodium). She had over hydrated following a colonoscopy and while passing kidney stones. She dropped into a coma after throwing a grand mal seizure. They couldn't guarantee she'd come out of the coma or what kind of shape her brain would be in. The next morning, when she opened her eyes, smiled and said "good morning" was the moment of greatest relief I've ever felt...

She had physical therapy this morning. Moved her to the edge of the bed, sat her up, but had to hold her there due to lack of balance. They moved her into a chair; she sat there for about 30 minutes and then moved her back to her bed. She is still somewhat groggy which the doctor said is normal. Feeding tube in place, not something she likes. Still having issues swallowing, therapist for that started today, she really wants some water, but she is restricted to ice chips and that sponge on a stick. Looks like we might move to a room in the next or two. Two things I have learned in this, the power of prayer and I ain't worth a damn as a caregiver. Thanks again to all of you, it really keeps my spirits up.

Swallowing if pretty complex, involving five different operations which must occur in the proper sequence. It usually take a speech pathologist to re-teach it...

Thanks for the update, Gray. This is a good place for you to post, especially with Earle's medical experiences, his commentary is a nice asset.

We are all thinking of you, your wife, and family.

Hang in there brother....and please stay strong for your wife!
