Fundamentally that shows the tribalism prevalent in the two party system greater than anything in recent memory.
I'm going to dissent only slightly, although I agree with the overall points you make.

It all depends on how one looks at the election - and this is where opinions can vary. If one holds to the notion that, "It's a binary thing, and I find Trump more distasteful than Hillary, so I'm holding my nose and voting for him".....and if that person consistently is willing to hold Trump to his or her previous standards.....then I have no problem with the distinction between being a "Trump voter" (person who voted for Trump but doesn't even necessarily like him) and a "Trump supporter" (those who actually believe the snake oil he's selling).

I don't hold to the binary concept in terms of theory even though the end result (barring something catastrophic) is going to be the winner of the binary choice. I feel like the GOP RIGHT NOW is where the Democrats were when Zell Miller gave his 1991 speech that Clinton essentially used as an outline for his 1992 campaign. Zell made the point that the party (that had at that point nominated McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis with the end result of massive wipeouts) activists had a series of litmus tests or purity tests that wound up nominating people who met all the points on the checklist....and then got creamed nationally.

His closing point was that as long as Democrats did this nationally, they were going to ultimately wind up beating themselves and losing the goals they hoped to achieve because they continued electing the opposition. The GOP that SUPPOSEDLY has a real problem with "socialism" is going to wind up causing it by electing people like Donald Trump. He's going to do (and has already done more) to hurt "the conservative cause" (whatever that is) than any elected Democrat since FDR.

I don't even think he's anti-abortion; in fact, I'll bet he's paid for more than one himself, and I said that in 2015.
I don't think he's 'really' for 'gun rights', either; I don't think he has anything resembling a coherent political philosophy except for
"what good things will people say about me"?

But last I checked, Republicans of old believed in more than just those things. It is the same problem with evangelicals sacrificing their integrity to support a man who is the antithesis of everything even remotely christian purely because he professes to be anti-abortion.
Once upon a time, the GOP held to the "big tent" idea that "we disagree on this issue but IN GENERAL we agree on these general concepts." In 1988, William F. Buckley came out and publicly opposed Republican Governor Lowell Weicker (CT) on the basis of principle - Attorney General Joe Liebermann was more in line with Buckley's philosophy of conservatism than was Weicker, who was probably the most liberal Republican in the country.

I'm not sure now, however, whether that was the right thing (I can vote for the other guy because he's closer to me) or the wrong thing (I'm getting rid of this guy because he's a RINO)......or a little bit of both.

As far as the so-called Christian thing........I never cease to be amazed at people (who should know I haven't forgotten what they said) who couldn't vote for McCain or Romney because "they're not conservative"........and who voted for Donald Trump, who is more liberal than the worst instincts of those two they couldn't support.

I would actually believe it was fear of who would fill Scalia's seat.......if they'd been willing to abandon Trump after he showed he's the slimeball we always knew he was.

That's my point. I know you travel worldwide a LOT, and it's pretty easy to find yourself in a bad situation.

Oh well, at least we both can hate Jawja and agree on that.

You didn’t read the Mueller report did you? As a matter of fact, you probably didn’t read five pages of it. It’s online, it’s free, and it’s not fake news. I found it to be an eye opener. Before I read it I still thought Trump was a much better choice than Hillary.

Have you considered that you cause the civil unrest there like you do here?
