This is a NYT article that describes how some European politicians and oligarchs are getting money from the EU which is intending the money to go to farmers. The amount of money a farm gets is related to the size of the farm and the EU does not govern how the money is distributed within each country so the big land owners are taking more than their share while the little farmers get nothing. Viktor Orban, prime minister of Hungary, had auctioned off state owned lands to people who were family, friends, or political allies. Once you control a large amount of land you receive a lot of money from the EU farm subsidy.
