Here are the bars I remember from around 1972 to 1985. A few of those memories are a bit fuzzier than others. Some of these have been mentioned before, some not. All had something to offer. Some lasted only a few years, others a long time. In the mid to late 70's the law changed to allow bars closer to campus - that killed off many older student bars downtown, and led to many new ones on the Strip.
Downtown
The Tide
The Bahnhof
Jumpin' Johnnys
Lee's Tomb
Carey's Corner
Clancy's Train Station (had a bar for a while)
Chukker (open even when all student bars were closed)
Silver Dollar
Nick's Downtown

The Strip
Shay's - became Down the Hatch
Down the Hatch the day it expanded
Solomon's Downstairs - the original long skinny bar behind the clothing store on the corner
Solomon's the day it expanded into the clothing store.
The Booth
Gallette's with outdoor Patio, and the day they closed it in.
The Varsity
The Noose
Egan's

Others
Sidetrack - the day it opened (had a small pizza place inside)
Sidetrack the day it expanded
Harry's with outdoor basketball, and later closed in

Irelands
Tivoli's
Ruby Tuesday
Storyville
Batchelor's III (Joe Nameth's)
Kipling's

Disco with lighted floors
Bonnie & Clyde's
The Supermarket

Out of town
Nick's 'in the Sticks' - not so far out

Norm's in B'ham
Joe's upside-down Plaza in B'ham
