The University of Alabama Gymnastics Team went into the final rotation trailing the #4 ranked UGA GymDawgs by .325 points. However, Bama came roaring from behind with a school record 49.7 on the floor exercise to overtake the GymDawgs by a score of 197.5 to 197.35.
The previously undefeated GymDawgs had counted at least one fall in each of its preceeding meets and had yet to break the 197 mark this season! In this meet--even on the crucial final rotation--the beam, which had been the GymDawgs downfall this season, the GymDawgs did not have to count a fall. Still, Bama was able to overtake them on the final rotation.
Bama's score of 197.5 matches this season's NCAA high score. The #1 ranked UCLA Bruins have scored 197.5 on two occasions this season--one of them coming at their place against our own Bama Gymnasts!
While it's always sweet to beat the GymDawgs, it's especially sweet to do so when they have their best meet of the year and count no falls. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best when they are at their best. That's exactly what Bama did on Friday night!
Roll Tide! Congratulations Coach Patterson and team!
