Very enjoyable novels for anyone who enjoys Historical
fiction. I am reading The Lords of the North at the moment
and enjoying it immensely. LINK

The previous book I read was called The Shadowkiller by
Matthew Hansen and I really liked it as well. LINK

I've read the first two books in the trilogy: The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman. I haven't picked up The Lords of the North yet, but I expect to place another order with Amazon in the next week or so.

I love Cornwell's writing: fast paced, excellent story teller.

Have you read any Steven Pressfield? His historical novels are set in ancient Greece and similar times.

You won't be disappointed with LOTN.....very good read.
I am not familiar with Steven Pressfield, but I will look him up...thanks for the info!

I looked for Pressfield's "Gates of fire" novel Saturday
when I was in Books a million, but they were out.
So, I settled for Cornwell's The Winter King instead...based
on the King Arthur legend.

I've read Gates of Fired and Tides of War. Both are very good. He has a couple of books centered on Alexander the Great that I haven't read yet: The Virtues of War and The Afghan Campaign. (Unfortunately, my ability to collect books that interest me outstrips the time I actually have to read them.)

Let me know how you like The Winter King. I'm very impressed with Cornwell, and I wouldn't mind adding more of his books to my collection.

I know what you mean. lol. Since we both like his Saxon
books, I'll let you know if the Arthur books are just as good
or not.

I actually wandered into a Barnes & Noble last night -- like a heroin junkie in an Amsterdam park -- and almost bought several new books, including the latest Cornwell. I was able to resist, for the moment. I need to finish the couple books I'm reading now before I get more. (Admitting I have a problem is the first step to recovery, right?):p

"The Winter King" isn't the page turner that the saxon
novels are, but so far it has been pretty good. Anyone
who is interested in another interpretation of the Arthur
legend should give it a try.

Thanks for the update.

BTW, do you know if the Saxon Novel series will be ongoing? I thought I read initially that Cornwell was planning a trilogy. Now, I'm hearing conflicting info.

Just got the book in the latest batch from Amazon. I'll move it to the top of the list. (I still accummulate books faster than I can read them, damn it! I also need to buy more bookshelves. I'm reading myself into poverty!)
