New Classifications in Alabama

Hewitt got the shaft by not being able to be in an area with Pinson and Clay Chalkville. Gardendale sticks out like a sore thumb in an area with Homewood, Mountain Brook, and Vestavia Hills.
Also, it will be interesting to see what Central Tuscaloosa does on the move up to 5A.

BTW, for anyone that may be confused, this is the AHSAA basketball areas. Here are the AHSAA regions for football.
6A Region 5 just got a lot tougher with Minor and Hueytown replacing Pelham and Thompson.

it doesn't really matter, just combine the two areas in basketball and get the region. same thing.That explains a lot then.
Thats an idea but unfortunately its not quite that easy. Several of the schools that are in areas for basketball do not field football teams. (Asbury, Paint Rock Valley, and many of the christian schools in the smaller classifications)

It probably works a lot better with the higher classifications. Schools in 5A and especially 6A have big enough athletic programs and enough students to support any sports they want to participate in.
Has Vigor been 5A? I always thought they were 6A. Foley plays them almost every year...seems like every year but I could be wrong...and they used to beat us on a regular occasion in the late 90's even into this decade. Anyways just wondering if they just dropped to 5A or if they've been 5A for a while.
