Anybody know why it closed? I heard that Johnny Ray himself passed away, but his family still runs the Johnny Ray's locations around Birmingham. The McFarland location was my favorite spot after night games, it was always crowded with great BBQ at reasonable prices, and I would see many of Bama's football players and assistant coaches there after games. I was just wondering if anyone knew the reason why it closed a few years ago?

I'm not sure, but I wish it hadn't closed. I loved their barbeque. I'll still stop by one of the bham locations when I'm in town and have a chance.

I used to go to the one on Valley Ave. nearly every week. Every now and then, they'd still have their banana cream pie in stock. Good eating!
