That Hotel California album I bought was one of those 180 gramm reissue albums that are normally a bit better than the old record they replace. Not so with this one. First play was disappointing so I cleaned it on a disc doctor, let it dry completely then tried again. The sound is real grainy like there is background distortion. I tried three different platter mats and no mat at all with no better sound. Looks like I bought a dud.

That is not good to hear; I guess that sometimes newer does not mean better.
