    New day, new list:

    CD:
Pearl Jam - Live on two legs - Not the best but live albums seldom are.

The Clark Family Experience - The Clark Family Experience - These are The Clark Brothers who won Rock Star last year. If you haven't heard this give it a try, six brothers are even better than three.

Dream Theater - Awake - I prefer Falling into Infinity, the music in Awake is all over the place.

Patricia Barber - Verse - Jazz a person needs to be slightly drunk to listen to.

    LP:
Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedoes - Still one of my favorite Tom Petty discs

A Group Called Smith - Old San Francisco band with a good chick singer

Alabama is 2- and 3-deep all over the place with full grown, meaner-than-he!! men. It's almost not fair making college kids play against them. Any Saban-coached team is going to be deep as he!! with recruits that have elite size, strength and experience at their position and they are going to play with incredible physicality.

Re: What are you listening to (Music)

Deep Purple - a greatest hits collection from the cheapie bin @ Best Buy
I bought it because it has the DP classics plus a Tommy Bolin vintage DP cut called "Gettin' Tighter" that I like. The cheapie bin @ Best Buy...where old people like me go to find their music...

    AC/DC - Black Ice
exiled, jr. got this for me. He said "well, Dad, it sounds pretty much like AC/DC always sounds...I think you'll like it." It does, and I do. Simple music, simple groove, like most all of their CDs, though, to me, this one is more musically consistent than some of theirs. Very good for heading to work while driving amongst ijits...Even better for driving home amongst 'em.

Miles Davis - Working with the Miles Davis Quintet
mrs. exiled found this one for me. A VERY nice collection of very good cool jazz from back before Miles got too wierd for me. As was frequently the case w/ Miles, this one has a monster combo with him, incl. John Coltrane.

    Miles Davis - Greatest Hits
Contains a live version of "My Funny Valentine" plus a great version of "Round Midnight" both of which are among my fave jazz cuts ever.

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
One of the greatest jazz CDs ever. Rolling Stone voted this the 12th best album ever recorded in any genre. One of my proudest parental achievements is that both of my kids love this one. The screaming metal boy and the Counting Crows/Jack Johnson/rap girl.

(I just realized that I've been in an oldschool Miles groove...oh well, a pretty nice groove to be in!)

    Also...
    Shinedown - Us & Them
Nightwish - various songs; I have several of their albums (nordic symphonic metal)
    Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Very good, musically intricate metal. Still not a big fan of the roaring style singing, but this guy does that plus, well, actual singing. And the music is great.

Finally, at work I've had my pandora Leslie West station on, which means good blues rock. I particularly like it when an actual Leslie West blues rock song comes on. Unlike last week though, there are people around @ work now, which means I have to turn it down to "respectable tie-wearing professional" level, rather than "ever-aging headbanger" level. Bummer...

BTW, I too love Dream Theater, though the only stuff I have by them is the 3-CD live set recorded in Japan. A Pandora station I have occasionally cycles around to some excellent progressive guitar jazz/rock by Petrucci & one of the guys from Starship back in the day. (maybe Craig Chaquico (sp?)). Very good stuff!

This morning feels like it'll be a Leaves' Eyes kind of day. Another Nordic metal band with an airy-voiced female lead singer & her hubby, a screaming/roaring singer, over a nice symphonic metal-ish groove.

exiled - still suffering from & enjoying my musical ADD, which is aided by the invention of the ipod...
