At the second, it's "Thistle and Shamrock" on NPR. Last night, we journeyed down to the south end of our mountain to the "City Lights and Stars" concert, "Henri's Notions," so more Celtic music...

This song is based on Ambrose Bierce's story "Incident at Owl Creek"... In the story, a Southern planter is talked into sabotaging a bridge by a Union spy masquerading as a Confederate soldier... He is captured in the attempt and is sentenced to death by hanging... As the noose is put around his neck, the planter gets away and evades those searching for him and makes it back home to his wife and as he reaches her... There's a bright flash and a sharp pain as the noose snaps his neck... From 4:15 on, the music represents the chaos of death and when you listen to the song, bar chime, bell tree, 2 jazz trumpeters, a choir, and the Doobies all playing their parts and meshing together... It is beyond awesome !
